Responsibilities

• Utilize the nursing process to provide safe, competent care to assigned patients.
• Assess patient condition and identify care needs in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.
• Maintain aseptic technique and infection control to prevent nosocomial and communicable diseases.
• Develop a care plan in collaboration with the team and adapt as needed.
• Float between Medical and Med/Surg Units and perform related duties.

Duties And Responsibilities

Utilizing the nursing process to provide safe, competent care to assigned patients; using a systematic problem-solving approach to assess the condition and identify the needs of the patient; observing and enforcing aseptic technique and infection control principles required in the prevention of nosocomial and communicable diseases; developing a plan of care for patients in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team; maintaining competence and professionalism relevant to current practice; Flexibility to float between Medical and Med/Surg Units and performing other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario (in good standing);
• Current BCLS;
• Coronary Care I course (or equivalent) required OR must enroll in the next available Lakeridge Health Telemetry course and successfully complete upon hire;
• Significant recent general medical, in-patient surgical nursing or equivalent related experience;
• Demonstrated commitment to maintain Reflective Practice Standards as outlined by the CON;
• Sound knowledge and application of nursing skills as listed in the C.O.N. Standards of Nursing Practice;
• Effective organizational, problem-solving and teaching skills;
• Demonstrated sound judgement, good observation and patient assessment skills;
• Proven effective communication and interpersonal skills;
• Demonstrated ability to perform appropriately in emergency situations;
• Physically capable of lifting, turning, transferring patients manually and with mechanical aids;
• Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to Lakeridge Health's comprehensive safety programs and practices including staff safety, patient safety and environmental safety and participation in regular in-service education sessions;
• Demonstrated ability to assume a charge role;
• Must have a satisfactory performance record;
