Responsibilities
  • Provide care to unconscious patients in the operating room.
  • Maintain a sterile environment and care for and maintain specialized instruments.
  • Use the nursing process to provide patient care.
  • Participate as a member of the multidisciplinary health‑care team.
  • Maintain competence and professionalism relevant to current practice.
  • Maintain nursing records—electronic and manual.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned in the scrub and circulating role within many specialized services within an operating room.
Qualifications
  • Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario in good standing.
  • Current Bachelor of Clinical Laboratory Sciences (B.C.L.S.).
  • Demonstrated commitment to maintain Reflective Practice Standards as outlined by the CNO.
  • Significant recent experience in the operating room and successful completion of the Certified Operating Post Graduate Course.
  • Proven organizational, interpersonal, problem‑solving, and teaching skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and complete assignments in a reasonable timeframe.
  • Proven ability to perform appropriately in emergency situations.
  • Proven ability to lift, turn, and transfer patients manually and with mechanical aids.
  • Demonstrated ability to assume a leadership/supervisory role.
  • Proven knowledge of care and maintenance of specialized OR equipment.
  • Preferred: CNA Perioperative Nursing Certification.
  • Preferred: Knowledge of invasive monitoring.
  • Preferred: Evidence of ongoing education.
  • Preferred: B.Sc.N. degree.
  • Must have a satisfactory performance record.
