Job summary

Lakeridge Health Oshawa is seeking a Maintenance Technician - Mech/Trades to join the Mechanical/Trades team. You will perform preventative maintenance on hospital facilities, inspect and repair equipment, and support safe, reliable operations for patients, staff, and visitors.

With a two-year diploma in building systems maintenance and hands-on experience, you will tackle HVAC, electrical, plumbing tasks, read blueprints, and work independently within a collaborative environment.

Qualifications

  • Successful completion of a two-year diploma in building systems maintenance (BTS).

Responsibilities

  • Inspecting and repairing equipment and systems; assist with all trade functions.
  • Lead specialized projects, renovations and construction work.
  • Perform programmed maintenance on a variety of equipment per procedures.
  • Replacing burned out lights and maintaining logs.
  • Maintaining HVAC systems and related equipment.
  • Support electrical, plumbing, and carpentry tasks as needed.
  • Document maintenance activities and ensure safe operations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Wage Schedule: $33.600 - $35.200 per hour

Accountable to the Manager, Engineering, the Maintenance Technician performs a multitude of preventative maintenance tasks ensuring the smooth operation of Lakeridge Health facilities and plays a crucial role in ensuring a safe and functional environment for patients, staff, and visitors.

Duties And Responsibilities
  • Inspecting and repairing of equipment and systems including directly assisting with all trade functions;
  • Responsible for specialized projects, renovations and construction trade work utilizing their certified multi-skilled expertise;
  • Performing programmed maintenance on a variety of equipment according to established procedures including; inspection, calibration, adjustment, repairing or replacing components;
  • Replacing burned out lights;
  • Maintaining HVAC systems and associated equipment;
  • Performing routine maintenance such as service plumbing, inspecting/adjusting pumps and motors, maintaining equipment logs while troubleshooting problems with architectural finishes, piping systems, electromechanical equipment, assisting in service of refrigeration equipment, procuring supplies, building exterior, fabricating metal;
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Successful completion of a two-year diploma program in building systems maintenance, such as Building Systems Engineering Technician (BTS);
Skills
  • Expert knowledge of equipment repairs, utilizing power tools such as (but not limited to); drums (hand and pedestal), grinders (hand and pedestal), wire brushes and band saws;
  • Proven experience with interpreting blue prints , building automation systems, pneumatic and hydraulic systems, conveyor systems, clutches, brakes and lubrication;
  • 3-5 years of experience with various types of flooring and ceiling installation;
  • Ability to understand and assist with electrical, carpentry, plumbing, heating, ventilation and air conditioning;
  • Ability to erect work platforms and scaffolding;
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills with the ability to effectively communicate both written and verbally to ensure good working relationships;
  • Previous experience within a healthcare environment, preferred;
  • Proven ability to work independently with minimal direction within a team environment;
  • Physically capable of bending, stooping, crawling, walking, climbing stairs, pushing and lifting equipment weighing up to 50 pounds;
  • Must have a satisfactory performance record;
