Job summary

Lakeridge Health Ajax-Pickering is hiring a Registered Practical Nurse for a temporary full-time role in the LHAP, 2N Medicine unit. The successful candidate will assess and plan nursing care, monitor patients, administer medications and support patient education in a multidisciplinary setting.

Requirements include current RPN registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario, a nursing diploma, CPR/BCLS, and at least 1 year medical/surgical experience.

Qualifications

• Current certification with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Practical Nurse.
• Diploma prepared Registered Practical Nurse or proof of upgraded equivalent skills.
• CPR/BCLS certification and basic life support knowledge.

DESCRIPTION:

Reporting to Manager of 2N (Inpatient Medicine), the successful candidate will be responsible for assessing, planning implementation and evaluating nursing care and practice activities in a multidisciplinary family centred care environment. The Registered Practical Nurse will be responsible for personal patient care, vital signs, physical assessment, administration of medications, monitoring IV's, setting up medical equipment as appropriate and other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Current certification with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Practical Nurse from an accredited college or proof of upgraded equivalent skills;
• Diploma prepared Registered Practical Nurse or proof of upgraded equivalent skills;
• Competent to perform CPR at a basic Cardiac Life Support level;
• Current CPR/BCLS certificate;
• Physical/Health Assessment course from a recognized institution or equivalent course;
• Current employment experience in medical/surgical units (minimum 1 year);
• Demonstrated skills in providing patient education and sharing knowledge of expected outcomes and care;
• Evidence of sound organizational and prioritization skills with the ability to work well in stressful situations;
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and documentation skills with the ability to work well with patients, families, all levels of staff and the community;
• Ability to work well independently and to exercise sound judgement;
• Evidence of education in Neurology, Nephrology, Palliative Care, an asset;
• Must have a satisfactory performance record;
