Job summary

Lakeridge Health Ajax-Pickering is seeking a Registered Nurse for a temporary part-time role in the Women & Childrens Healthcare program. The position involves 12-hour shifts with day, night, and weekend coverage, and requires cross-training in Post-Partum and labour/delivery units.

Qualifications

  • Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario in good standing is required.
  • Perinatal course or plan to complete within two years of hire date.
  • BCLS certification is required at hiring.
  • NRP certification required within 3 months of hire.
  • Experience in acute care settings including Labour and Delivery or related units is needed.
  • Leadership or supervision capability is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Provide nursing care using the nursing process as part of the health care and nursing teams.
  • Maintain nursing records and participate in cross-training for postpartum and delivery units.

Wage Schedule: $41.150 - $58.980 per hour

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

To use nursing process in providing patient care. To participate as a member of the Health Care Team and the Nursing Team. As an individual practitioner, to maintain competence and professionalism relevant to current practice. To maintain nursing records. Cross-training to Post-Partum required. Successful applicants will be required to work in the Labour and Delivery units at LHO, LHAP and LHPP.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario (in good standing);
  • Completion of a Perinatal Course or in process of completing (within two years of hire date) NOTE: an experienced perinatal nurse with two years of fulltime experience can challenge this course by writing the Canadian Nurses Association Perinatal Certification exam;
  • Current BCLS required;
  • NRP (within 3 months of hire) required;
  • previous experience in an acute care setting (Pediatrics, Labour and Delivery, NICU, Medicine, Critical Care, Surgery, Emergency or Operating Room) required; or recent (within 1 year) consolidation experience in Labour and Delivery, Postpartum, or Neonatal ICU required;
  • Experience in the scrub and circulating role for Caesarean births or enrolled in a Perioperative nursing course preferred;
  • Demonstrated commitment to maintain Reflective Practice Standards as outlined by the CNO;
  • Demonstrated effective organizational, problem-solving and teaching skills;
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Sound judgement, good observation and patient assessment skills, tact and empathy;
  • Demonstrated ability to assume a leadership/supervisory role;
  • Demonstrated commitment to our core values of Inclusion, Compassion, Innovation, Teamwork and Joy;
  • Must have a satisfactory performance record;
  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to Lakeridge Health's comprehensive safety programs and practices including staff, patient and environmental safety and participation in regular in-service education in this area.
