Job summary

Weeneebayko Area Health Authority (WAHA) in Moose Factory, ON seeks a Patient Advocate Translator to support discharge planning and patient advocacy across remote communities.

You will provide Cree-English medical translation, advocate for clients, and collaborate with the Discharge Team, Nurses and Physicians; fluency in Cree and English medical terminology is essential.

The Weeneebayko Area Health Authority (WAHA) is seeking an experienced professional to fil the key role of Patient Advocate Translator.

We are an integrated health system providing the full continuum of care to the six communities of the western James Bay coast with over 500 employees, physicians, and partners in care. As a health authority, you will work in a unique setting where you have the opportunity to care for patients in all phases of their life journey, in all areas of their health experience. Who You Are
  • Excellent written, oral, and electronic communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a strong understanding of customer relations.
  • Experience interacting, working within, and leading multidisciplinary teams
  • Knowledge of Indigenous health issues and the geographic region of the James and Hudson Bay Coast
What You’ll Do
  • Work closely with the Discharge Team, Nurses, and Physicians in providing ongoing care
  • Provides translation services to all clients of the Weeneebayko Area Health Authority communities and various approved affiliated agencies;
  • Provides advocacy to clients receiving medical attention;
  • Must have a good understanding of medical terminology in Cree and English
  • Knowledge of the privacy requirements of the Personal Health Information Protection Act
  • and the Health Care Consent Act
What You Bring
  • Successful completion of Secondary School is required
  • Fluency in the local Cree Language
  • Certification/Training in Computer Training, Medical Terminology
  • Certificate or Diploma in a Health Care or Social Work field is strongly preferred
  • Diploma in Office Administration is an asset
  • Must have a valid drivers' license
  • Experience working in the Ontario healthcare sector is considered an asset

Salary: $72,111.00 - $76,498.50
