Job summary

Brandon University is seeking two casual Building Service Workers in the Physical Plant department. Duties include cleaning, floor care, snow removal, and bed-making in residences. Must be able to lift, work from ladders, and operate in sports event settings.

The role is casual and on an as-needed basis, with shifts including days, evenings, and weekends. A valid driver’s license is preferred; successful candidates will undergo safety checks.

Qualifications

• Minimum Grade 12 or GED.
• Two (2) years of experience in institutional cleaning and groundskeeping or equivalent education/experience.
• Must be physically capable of repetitive tasks (bending, heavy lifting, pushing/pulling) and working at heights.
• Valid Class 5 driver’s license; ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Clean, buff and wax floors; carpet care; auto scrubbing; change light bulbs.
• Snow and ice removal; bed-making in university residences; clean washrooms, walls and windows; empty garbage cans.
• Grounds maintenance; ensure overall cleanliness before, during and after sporting events.
• Other related duties as assigned.

Duties and Responsibilities:

This position reports to the Director of Physical Plant and is responsible for a variety of tasks aimed at maintaining the cleanliness and upkeep of Brandon University. Duties include, but are not limited to cleaning, buffing and waxing floors, carpet care, auto scrubbing, changing lightbulbs, snow and ice removal, bed-making in university residences, cleaning washrooms, walls, and windows, emptying garbage cans, grounds maintenance, and ensuring overall cleanliness before, during, and after sporting events. Additional related duties may be assigned as needed.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

The preferred candidate will possess a minimum of Grade 12 or GED, along with two (2) years of experience in institutional cleaning and groundskeeping, or a combination of equivalent education and experience. The candidate must be physically capable of performing all aspects of the role, including repetitive tasks such as bending, heavy lifting, pushing, pulling, and working in elevated areas using ladders. Experience using FAMIS 360 or other work-order software is an asset. A physical demands assessment will be conducted as part of the hiring process. The successful candidate must hold a valid Class 5 driver's license and demonstrate the ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.

*NOTE*

Physical Plant requires two (2) casual Building Service Workers. Candidates must be available and willing to work a variety of shifts including days, evenings and weekends and varying start times.

This position is subject to a Child Abuse Registry Check and Criminal Record Check. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. These checks must be submitted in accordance with the Policy in order to maintain employment.
