Prairie Valley School Division invites applications for a 1.0 Continuing Learning Facilitator - Indigenous Advocate, commencing as soon as possible. The Indigenous Advocate supports teachers and professionals to improve student opportunities and achievement, while guiding the division to implement Truth and Reconciliation initiatives.

The role reports to a Learning Superintendent and is a leadership position within the Learning team, focusing on strengthening partnerships with First Nations

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Education Degree required.
• Valid Saskatchewan Professional Teacher certificate required.
• Master's Degree in a related field is required.

Responsibilities

• Provide learning leadership and instructional expertise to teachers and staff.
• Support Truth and Reconciliation initiatives and Indigenous ways of knowing across the division.
• Build capacity to address Indigenous learners' needs and promote equitable learning opportunities.

• Lead professional development and select/secure learning resources and technology.

Job description

Prairie Valley School Division invites applications for a 1.0 Continuing Learning Facilitator - Indigenous Advocate commencing as soon as possible. The Indigenous Advocate is responsible to work as part of a team, to provide both generalized and specialized support to teachers and other professionals across the school division. This role works to improve opportunities and achievement for students, helps to set strategic direction and implement actions. Reporting to a Learning Superintendent, this leadership position is a member of the Learning team. This role is specifically responsible for ensuring that the Calls to Action from the Truth and Reconciliation report and the Inspiring Success policy goals of the Ministry of Education are supported and implemented in the school division.

The Learning Facilitator Provides Learning Leadership By

• Provide support and leadership for school and system-wide Truth and Reconciliation initiatives.
• Provide accessible, timely and effective educational leadership, curricular and instructional expertise and direct support to classroom teachers. Support the development and integration of Indigenous ways of knowing, world view, and content for all schools in the division.
• Build teacher capacity to use culturally relevant and supported instructional strategies and innovative practices to promote equitable and engaging learning opportunities.
• In collaboration with school-based administrators and learning facilitators, enhance teachers' abilities to address the unique strengths and needs of Indigenous learners in the school community.
• Support individual students and families.
• Promote the development of culturally supportive instructional practices (e.g., introducing innovative ideas, questioning practices, making observations, supporting online learning, use of new technologies).
• Analyze system and school-specific data to develop and recommend targeted interventions and system-wide strategies to improve student academic, behavioural and social-emotional outcomes.
• Working with Learning Team professionals and other instructional staff, develop integrated approaches to support effective instruction, including managing professional development and resource selection and acquisition (learning resources, technology, equipment, supplies and facilities).
• Working with the Indigenous Liaison Worker, take a leadership role in establishing and strengthening educational partnerships with First Nations communities and agencies.
• Build partnerships with Elders and Knowledge Carriers, First Nations educational authorities, other school divisions, the Ministry of Education, and other stakeholders to assist in the planning and delivery of Indigenous instruction services including professional development.

The Learning Facilitator Provides System Leadership By

• Knowledge of Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada: Calls to Action report and the Inspiring Success Policy Framework.
• Knowledge of and familiarity with the structures and composition of Prairie Valley School Division's partnering First Nations.
• Knowledge of external support systems and mechanisms available to Indigenous students and families.
• Knowledge of current educational programming and curricula and understand how programs connect to one another across subject areas and grade levels.
• Knowledge and ability to access and leverage a wide range and variety of instructional and assessment approaches, resources, and technologies.
• Understanding of the interconnectedness of Indigenous language, land and culture.
• Excellent leadership, collaboration, consultation and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work in an interdependent team environment, seek and attend to feedback, and generate high-quality work.
• Ability to motivate others to implement innovative instructional practices that respond to the needs of every student.
• Ability to communicate effectively in both verbal and written forms.
• Knowledge of basic financial and resource management principles.
• Ability to manage confidential material and maintain staff and student privacy.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor of Education Degree
• Valid Saskatchewan Professional A teacher certificate
• Master's Degree in a related field
• Minimum five years of teaching experience

This position is based out of the Education Centre or an assigned school location as mutually determined between the incumbent and the school division. Travel within the division is required; system fleet vehicles are available or mileage is paid for use of a personal vehicle. The successful candidate will receive a 10% allowance, in addition to their regular salary, as per the LINC Agreement.
