Job summary

WAGE RANGE: $32.590 TO $37.260 PER HOUR

POSITION OBJECTIVE: Functioning as a team player, the Medical Laboratory Assistant will support all staff in the provision of quality laboratory services to assist physicians and other health care providers in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of disease. This includes performing technical and non-technical procedures as required, under the general supervision of a Medical Laboratory Technologist. Required to perform relevant cardio testing procedures on an as needed basis. The Medical Laboratory Assistant will focus on meeting or exceeding our patient/client needs and will support the mission, vision and values as determined by Niagara Health while providing safe and competent patient/client care. The successful candidate's home site will be the Niagara Falls Site and must be willing to work at two or more sites.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Graduate of an accredited Laboratory Assistant Program
• Certification as Medical Laboratory Assistant with the Medical Laboratory Professionals Association Ontario (MLPAO, formerly OSMT) or the Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS)
• Recent related clinical experience as a medical laboratory assistant in a clinical laboratory environment
• Demonstrated advanced skills in phlebotomy techniques for patients/clients of all ages
• Applies knowledge, skills, judgment and competencies required for safe, independent and inter-disciplinary practice
• Applies Niagara Health values and professional practice standards to patient/client care and service
• Integrates reflection, critical thinking, education and relevant practical experience in problem solving
• Working knowledge of computers, Laboratory Information Systems and other related Hospital systems
• Consistent and regular attendance required
