At Memory Ware, we craft games that invite players into deep, meaningful experiences with systems that reward curiosity and stories that linger long after the screen fades.

We're looking for a UX Designer who's excited to shape player experience across combat, exploration, and narrative, especially in games inspired by classic and modern JRPGs.

As a UX Designer on our team, you'll own UX initiatives across the entire player journey, from moment-to-moment interactions to broader systemic experiences like progression, combat, and exploration.

We're not just looking for someone to make interfaces clean and usable, we want someone who can envision how each interaction, mechanic, and layer of feedback contributes to an unforgettable player experience. You'll collaborate closely with game designers, engineers, UI artists, and narrative designers to ensure the whole game feels cohesive, intuitive, and emotionally resonant.

What You'll Do

1. Lead UX thinking across major systems, ensuring that core mechanics (e.g., combat, dungeons, item use, turn management) feel intuitive, satisfying, and player-first.
2. Design flows, wireframes, and interaction prototypes to support key experiences, not just interfaces.
3. Collaborate with designers to improve the feel and clarity of core game mechanics.
4. Identify friction points across the entire gameplay loop and propose smart, genre-aware solutions.
5. Bridge the Design Team with other teams to ensure that visual and technical execution supports both usability and emotional tone.
6. Use tools like Figma, Miro, and Unity to develop and communicate UX intent and build low fidelity prototypes.
7. Research and document genre conventions (especially JRPGs), identifying good practices and opportunities for innovation.
8. Help define usability testing plans and translate feedback into actionable iterations.
9. Advocate for accessibility, clarity, and joy in every part of the game, even those without a single UI element.

What We're Looking For

1. Experience as a senior or lead UI/UX designer on at least one shipped game or app.
2. A portfolio demonstrating strong visual design, user flows, and UX strategy.
3. Experience working directly with engineers and shipping UI in a game engine (ideally Unity).
4. Experience designing UX in game development, especially on games with layered systems and mechanics.
5. A player-first mindset: designing with emotional clarity, pacing, and flow in mind.
6. Strong UX fundamentals: flow design, interaction principles, usability best practices.
7. Excellent communication skills: explaining reasoning, taking feedback, building alignment.
8. Comfort owning initiatives and proactively improving player experience across disciplines.
9. Passion for system-heavy or narrative-rich games, especially RPGs, strategy, or adventure titles.

Bonus Points For

1. Experience designing for console or controller-first games.
2. Motion design or interaction design skills for feedback and transitions.
3. Game design literacy, especially engaging in design discussions beyond UX.
4. Familiarity with accessibility design for games.
