About the role

Memory Ware is seeking a UX Designer excited to shape player experience across combat, exploration, and narrative, especially in games inspired by classic and modern JRPGs. You will lead UX initiatives across the entire player journey, collaborating with game designers, engineers, UI artists, and narrative designers to create cohesive, intuitive, and emotionally resonant experiences.

Responsibilities

1. Lead UX thinking across major systems, ensuring core mechanics feel intuitive and player-first.
2. Design flows, wireframes, and prototypes to support key experiences.
3. Collaborate to enhance the feel and clarity of game mechanics.
4. Identify and address friction points in gameplay.
5. Bridge design with visual and technical teams to support usability and emotional tone.
6. Use tools like Figma, Miro, and Unity to develop and communicate UX concepts.
7. Research genre conventions and identify opportunities for innovation.
8. Define usability testing plans and implement feedback-based improvements.
9. Advocate for accessibility, clarity, and joy in all game aspects.

Qualifications

1. Experience as a senior or lead UI/UX designer on shipped games or apps.
2. Strong portfolio demonstrating visual design, user flows, and UX strategy.
3. Experience working with engineers and shipping UI in Unity.
4. Experience in game development with layered systems and mechanics.
5. Player-first mindset focusing on emotional clarity, pacing, and flow.
6. Strong fundamentals in UX design principles.
7. Excellent communication skills.
8. Ability to own initiatives and proactively improve player experience.
9. Passion for system-heavy or narrative-rich games, especially RPGs.

• Design experience for console or controller-first games.
• Motion or interaction design skills.
• Game design literacy beyond UX.
• Accessibility design experience for games.
