System Software Engineer - Ubuntu Networking

Role Overview

As a Linux System Engineer, you will maintain and develop core components of the Ubuntu network stack, collaborating with upstream projects and mentoring junior engineers. Your work will directly impact Ubuntu's stability, security, and performance.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with a distributed team to design and implement networking solutions
• Contribute to and influence open-source networking projects
• Develop high-quality, well-documented software
• Debug and resolve network issues
• Participate in code and design reviews
• Work with cross-functional teams to improve architecture and user experience

Qualifications

• Deep knowledge of Linux networking (kernel to user space)
• Experience with computer networks, virtual networks, and hardware offloading
• Familiarity with tools like systemd-networkd, NetworkManager, iproute2, WireGuard, etc.
• Proficiency in Golang, C/C++, Rust, or Python
• Experience with Debian or Ubuntu Linux
• Strong academic background in a technical field or equivalent experience
• Willingness to travel internationally twice a year for company events
