Job summary

Metal Toad is seeking an experienced Solutions Architect to design AWS-based client solutions and guide engineering teams through the SDLC in a fully remote, Brazil-resident contractor role.

You will build cost-optimized designs, balance build/buy/open-source options, and communicate with stakeholders from the C-Suite to developers, while contributing thought leadership with blog posts and talks.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience programming.
• Familiar with event-oriented architecture of applications.
• AWS Certified or able to achieve certification within 90 days.
• Familiar with ETL processes and tools.
• Experience with data flow diagrams, data dictionaries, network diagrams, and UML diagrams.

Responsibilities

• Design solutions for clients and help engineering teams construct technical solutions.
• Guide engineers to right-size and cost-effective designs and prevent over-engineering.
• Participate in all SDLC phases including sales, estimating, coding, and program management.
• Publish 8+ thought leadership pieces per year (blogs, articles, or talks).
• Create accurate project plans and timelines with budgets.

We help our customers with their cloud adoption by providing architecture, migration, optimization, machine learning, and even 24/7 support. We are a professional services firm providing services in software engineering and the cloud. We do Technical consulting, Programming & Quality Assurance, DevOps, Applications, UX, Product management, and Project management. Metal Toad is a fully remote company, offering all team members the ability to work from home. Although Metal Toad is a remote company, we are currently seeking contractors residing in Brazil for this position. Compensation will be made in Brazilian Reais (R$), following the local currency of the country where the position is located. Due to legal limitations, we are unable to sponsor any type of visa.

Job Description

The mission for this role is to design solutions for sales and help engineering teams construct technical solutions.

OUTCOMES

• Design Efficient solutions: All client solutions should be designed to meet the clients needs within their budget and without over engineering.
• Ensure designs are cost optimized: Designs are the right mix of build, buy, open source, modules, etc that maximizes the clients’ ROI.
• Aligns stakeholders: Produce deck slides, given presentations, and other activities to ensure stakeholders from the C-Suite to team developers are inspired and aligned on vision.

Activities

• Estimation & Allocation: Create accurate estimates for every ticket to enable proper resource allocation.
• Guide engineers: Ensure engineering efforts focus on the right-size/right-cost solution to prevent over engineering and developer spiraling.
• Project contribution: Participate in all phases of the SDLC including, sales, estimating, coding, program management, and other activities as needed.
• Thought Leadership: Guide Metal Toad engineers and the community by publishing 8+ times per year. This can include blogs, articles, or hosting lunch and learns.
• Accurate estimates: Create project plans and tickets with accurate timelines and budgets.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

NICE TO HAVE

• Experience with both backend and frontend programming languages.
• 2+ years as an architect designing solutions on AWS.
• An AWS professional or Specialty certification.
