As the Software Engineering Manager for Ubuntu Gaming, your mission is to make gaming on Ubuntu first-class. This involves enhancing compatibility, performance, security, device support, and content sharing. You will collaborate with open-source projects and partners to improve the Linux gaming ecosystem.

Location: This role is remote, based in the Americas or EMEA region.

Responsibilities:
  1. Lead your team to optimize and expand the Ubuntu gaming experience, focusing on the Steam Snap.
  2. Manage project timelines, balancing feature improvements with deadlines.
  3. Collaborate with stakeholders to align your team's work with company objectives.
  4. Conduct code reviews focusing on quality, performance, and modern design principles.
  5. Work with upstream projects like Proton and partners like Unity to enhance Ubuntu's gaming capabilities.
  6. Coordinate with other teams for a cohesive Ubuntu experience.
  7. Drive performance improvements across various hardware.
  8. Engage with the open-source and gaming communities for feedback and collaboration.
Qualifications:
  • Undergraduate degree in a technical field or relevant experience.
  • Proven ability to collaborate with upstream projects and partners.
  • Experience with the Linux graphics stack from user-space to kernel drivers.
  • Strong project management skills, including risk assessment and resource management.
  • Technical leadership combined with team management skills.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Robust planning skills for multi-cycle improvements.
  • Willingness to travel twice a year for company events.
