The role of Software Engineering Manager for Ubuntu Gaming involves leading efforts to enhance Linux gaming on Ubuntu, focusing on performance, security, device support, and content sharing. You will collaborate with open-source projects and partners to improve the gaming ecosystem.

Location

This role is remote, based in the Americas or EMEA region.

Responsibilities
  1. Lead your team to optimize and expand the Ubuntu gaming experience, especially the Steam Snap.
  2. Manage project timelines, balancing feature development with deadlines.
  3. Collaborate with stakeholders to align team efforts with company goals.
  4. Conduct code reviews emphasizing quality, performance, and modern design.
  5. Work with upstream projects like Proton and partners like Unity to improve Ubuntu gaming capabilities.
  6. Coordinate with other teams for a cohesive Ubuntu experience.
  7. Drive hardware performance improvements.
  8. Engage with the open source and gaming communities for feedback and collaboration.
Qualifications
  • Undergraduate degree in a technical field or equivalent experience.
  • Experience collaborating with upstream projects and partners.
  • Familiarity with Linux graphics stack from user-space to kernel drivers.
  • Strong project management skills, including risk assessment and resource management.
  • Technical leadership combined with team management skills.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Proven ability to manage multi-cycle improvement projects.
  • Willingness to travel twice a year for company events.
