Site Reliability EngineerJob Description
The Role
As a member of the Site Reliability Engineering team, you will be working alongside other engineers and architects to support and deploy the solutions that power SUSE’s products in the cloud. We partner with Amazon, Azure and Google to provide a seamless update workflow for our mutual customers. In support of dynamic business growth and in line with our ambitious objectives, you will advance our cloud platform’s monitoring, deployment, automation and administration capabilities. You will also support system/application reliability and uptime as part of the team on-call rotation.
Apart from working on a broad spectrum of technical solutions, a Site Reliability Engineer may also:
create and manage resources in multiple cloud environments
partner with our sales and support teams on complex issues
work with leadership on process improvements and strategic initiatives
contribute to a wide range of open source projects
coach/mentor new team members
Focus Areas
Deploy and Maintain Linux Systems and Cloud infrastructure
Contribute to capacity planning, solution design and monitoring discussions
Contribute to maintaining complex environment by monitoring availability and assisting in maintaining platform health
Partner with software engineering teams to improve software releases
Measure and optimise system performance, with an eye toward pushing our capabilities forward, getting ahead of customer needs, and innovating for continual improvement
Improve service availability by assisting in building run books, on-call rotation, incident command, and working with development teams to diagnose and resolve incidents
Preferred Experience & Skills
Professional experience in System Administration, Site Reliability Engineering or DevOps Engineering
Application performance monitoring and observability tools
Building and maintaining infrastructure in the cloud (e.g. AWS, Azure, Google)
Scripting and automation skills in Linux environments
Maintaining systems with configuration management tools, such as SALT, Ansible, Puppet or Chef
Cloud command line tools experience, (e.g. Azure CLI, AWS CLI and gcloud)
Experience with Grafana
Participating in an on-call rotation
Programming experience in Python, Ruby or Go
Maintaining Kubernetes clusters
Building and Using CI/CD pipelines to deploy or update infrastructure and software
Working within a distributed team
Deploying Infrastructure with provisioning tools (e.g. Terraform, Cloud Formation)
