Endava is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to build scalable, cloud-native platforms in a modern engineering environment. You will design distributed systems, develop microservices, and work with Kafka, REST APIs, and Docker in a cross-functional, international team.

You’ll contribute to CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and best practices while shaping solutions that meet performance and security requirements in a hybrid work setup.

Job Description

About the Role

Join Endava as a Senior Backend Engineer and help build scalable, cloud-native platforms in a modern engineering environment. We're looking for engineers who enjoy solving complex backend challenges, designing distributed systems, working with event-driven architectures, and building reliable microservices at scale. You'll work with modern technologies including Java, Spring Boot, Kafka, cloud services, and containerized environments while collaborating with international teams to deliver high-quality software solutions.

What You'll Do

• Translate business and technical requirements into comprehensive architectural solutions, defining service boundaries, integration patterns, data flows, and key technical decisions.
• Drive technical design discussions and architectural decisions, evaluating trade-offs around scalability, reliability, performance, security, and maintainability.
• Build and evolve microservices and event-driven architectures.
• Develop and integrate REST APIs and asynchronous communication solutions using Kafka.
• Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and engineering best practices.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams in an international environment.
• Ensure solutions meet performance, scalability, reliability, and security requirements.
• Support continuous improvement through knowledge sharing and technical leadership.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of experience in backend software engineering.
• Strong system and solution design skills, with demonstrated experience translating requirements into scalable backend architectures and making technical decisions across microservices, APIs, messaging, data, and cloud components.
• Strong experience with Java and Spring Boot.
• Experience designing and building microservices-based applications.
• Hands-on experience with Apache Kafka and event-driven architectures.
• Experience with REST APIs, Docker, and cloud-native development.
• Experience with at least one major cloud provider (Azure, AWS, or GCP).
• Understanding of CI/CD practices and automated testing strategies.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.
• Advanced English level.

Nice to Have

• Kubernetes or OpenShift.
• Python, Spark, Databricks, Azure Event Hub, ADF, or Delta Tables.
• Experience in fintech, payments, banking, e-commerce, or other high-volume transaction environments.
• Exposure to distributed systems, observability, and performance optimization.
