The Role

Core Responsibilities

• Lead and execute S/4HANA migration activities using the SUM/DMO tool, including planning, sandbox cycles, quality cycles, and production cutover.
• Conduct system assessments, readiness checks, simplification reviews, and technical mitigation plans before conversion.
• Manage SAP installations, upgrades, system copies, refreshes, and landscape standardization.
• Oversee database administration tasks (HANA mandatory), system tuning, monitoring, memory management, backups, and recovery procedures.
• Coordinate and troubleshoot integrations, RFCs, proxies, PI/PO, SAP BTP services, and middleware connectivity during and after migration.
• Define and execute the transport strategy, ensuring consistency across development and functional streams.
• Support data migration teams in mapping technical dependencies, load sequencing, runtime optimization, and validation of converted objects.
• Manage Fiori activation, configuration, launchpad setup, and security alignment with Basis and Authorization teams.
• Ensure compliance with SAP best practices, security baselines, and audit requirements (SOX, GRC, segregation of duties).
• Act as escalation point for landscape performance issues, upgrade blockers, interface errors, and conversion anomalies.

Required Skills and Experience

• Knowledge of HANA Database administration, monitoring, backup strategies, performance optimization, and high availability concepts.
• Deep knowledge of SUM/DMO, Maintenance Planner, Software Provisioning Manager (SWPM), SAPCAR, SAP Notes corrections, SPAM/SAINT, and Kernel operations.
• Practical understanding of S/4HANA architecture:
  • Simplification items
  • Data model changes
  • CDS Views, embedded analytics activation
  • Fiori and Gateway
  • New integration patterns
  • Experience with cloud hyperscalers (AWS, Azure, GCP) and modern SAP landscapes (RAP, BTP, Integration Suite).
  • Knowledge of system sizing, quick sizers, capacity planning, and performance baselines.

Certifications (Preferred)

• SAP Certified Technology Specialist – SAP S/4HANA Conversion & System Upgrade (highly valued)
• SAP Basis or System Administration certifications
• Cloud certifications (AWS, Azure, or GCP) are a strong differentiator
• SAP Activate methodology (nice to have)

Soft Skills

• Methodical mindset, strong investigative instinct, and ability to untangle complex technical issues.
• Clear communication, skilled in explaining technical risks to functional teams and executives.
• High sense of ownership, autonomy, and structured problem‑solving.
• Ability to coordinate cross‑functional technical teams during critical‑path activities like migration weekends.
