We are hiring a Project Manager - Ubuntu Embedded Systems for Canonical's Devices business. This role involves coordinating and completing large, complex customer-facing projects, overseeing all aspects of delivery, and acting as the main liaison between engineering teams and customers.

The projects involve delivering Ubuntu images on devices ranging from robots, edge gateways, and IoT devices to PCs and automotive systems. This is a high-profile position requiring building and maintaining relationships with team members, customers, partners/vendors (Silicon vendors, OEMs, ODMs, IHVs), and other departments.

Location: Remote in the Americas region.

Responsibilities include:

• Managing projects through their lifecycle to meet goals for Canonical and clients
• Delivering engineering professional services
• Collaborating with engineering teams on custom board enablement and Ubuntu image delivery
• Developing project statements of work
• Creating and maintaining project schedules
• Securing client agreement on schedules and work items
• Ensuring projects are within scope, time, and resources
• Managing risk mitigation plans
• Addressing technical issues to achieve delivery outcomes
• Communicating regularly with clients and stakeholders
• Managing delivery of third-party deliverables
• Updating management on project status
• Identifying additional engineering requests outside existing contracts
• Promoting Canonical technologies to customers
• Supporting work across different time zones and non-traditional hours

Candidate profile:

• Experience managing engineering services projects, software development teams, and field engineers
• Experience managing cross-cultural, multi-continent projects (Asia, Europe, Americas)
• Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math preferred
• Knowledge of Linux, open source community, and computer architecture
• Excellent English communication skills
• Strong leadership and problem-solving skills, with partnership-building experience
• PMP/PMI or PRINCE2 certification preferred
• Ability to work non-standard hours and travel up to four times annually
