Job summary

ADP is seeking a Lead Application Developer to design, build and evolve web applications in a global Agile team. You will work closely with product managers, architects and engineers across the US and Brazil to plan, develop, test and deploy impactful software for clients with millions of employees.

You will mentor junior developers, balance prioritization with technical interests, and influence architectural decisions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
• 5+ years of professional experience in relevant skills (NodeJS, JavaScript, React, AWS).
• Expert in NodeJS and JavaScript.
• React or similar modern frontend framework.
• AWS (EC2, SQS, SES) or equivalent cloud experience.
• Experience with database modeling and MongoDB.
• Good understanding of Jenkins pipelines and CI/CD processes.
• Experience writing technical plans/proposals, Proofs of Concept, and leading technical projects with 4+ engineers.
• Cross‑functional collaboration experience across multiple teams.
• 1–2 years of technical leadership/mentoring experience.
• Preferred: experience scaling distributed systems and observability.

ADP is hiring a Lead Application Developer.

In this role, you will work within a global agile team to bring the designs and ideas to life for new or improved web applications. This work will support a mix of internal and external clients and partners. You will work with several stakeholders (in both US and Brazil): partners, product managers, architects, software engineers, and more to plan, design, develop, test, and implement impactful solutions that support companies with one to millions of employees.

You will start your day on a daily call to prioritize and track work. Within the team you work on, you will support the engineering team on working on their chosen user stories while implementing and testing yours. You will spend most of your day developing and testing your code. The production release cadence is biweekly based on the ready deliverables of each squad.

As a Lead Developer, you will work closely with your team to lead and guide projects to success. You'll have a hands‑on role designing, developing, debugging, and deploying software solutions where you can leverage your expertise with code complexities. You'll also serve as a mentor to the junior developers. In the senior role, you will balance the assigning of user stories through prioritization and consideration of the technical interests of each developer on the team. What You'll Do

Here’s what you can expect on a typical day:

• Agile. You’ll start each day with a daily, working in a team to understand responsibilities, identify issues, and communicate coding priorities while choosing user stories to complete. You will also participate in other agile ceremonies, including scheduled sprint demos, where you will present your work to up to 15 stakeholders.
• Build teams that thrive. As an experienced leader, you want everyone to shine. You’ll start each day by checking in with your engineering team to identify priorities and challenges. You’ll find a way to make the team’s day go smoother. You are constantly looking for ways to share your knowledge, motivate others and keep everyone engaged and productive.
• Build Products. You will use your technical expertise to review your team’s work and help your people excel in an Agile environment. You’re proactive and hands‑on. When you see a potential issue, you never leave things hanging and unfinished. When you and your team deliver a finished product, it’s as polished as you could make it.
• Variety of work. There is no typical day. You could be checking in with a team in US one minute, meeting with leadership to review initiatives for the coming quarter later and tomorrow supporting the development activities of your peers.
• Influence and inspire confidence. You are comfortable presenting to senior leaders, product owners, and peers with a compelling voice that you demonstrate through executive presence, leading change, and creating clear executive‑level communications on milestone achievements. Ability to influence architectural decisions.
• Innotavion. Able to deliver innovative solutions to drive next generation user experiences, designs and technologies. Comfortable with AI‑driven development in order to deliver highly automated, intelligent and predictive solutions for our client offerings.

To Thrive In This Role

• You’ll have a Bachelor's degree OR equivalent.
• 5+ years of professional experience in relevant skills (in the tech stack below) gained and developed in the same or similar role.
• Expert in NodeJS and javascript.
• React (or similar modern front‑end framework).
• AWS (EC2, SQS, SES) or similar cloud experience
• Experience with database modeling and mongo.
• Good understanding of Jenkins pipelines and CI/CD process;
• Experience writing technical plans/proposals, completing Proofs of Concept, making and defending recommendations on technical direction/strategy, and leading technical projects of 4 or more engineers.
• Demonstrated success as a cross‑functional collaborator and problem solver, working closely with multiple teams throughout an organization.
• 1-2 years of experience as a technical leader and mentor to new or more junior developers.
• (Preferred) Experience scaling distributed systems, database architecture, observability, security/vulnerability reduction, message queuing.
