Descrição da oferta de emprego

Fraud Prevention Strategy Specialist
Fraud Prevention team

SumUp’s Fraud Prevention team sits at the intersection of risk, data and global payments, moving fast to stay ahead of one of fintech’s most dynamic challenges: stopping fraud at scale across multiple markets and products.

As part of our global, product-focused approach, this role will contribute to protecting SumUp’s acquiring business across Brazil, Mexico and the United States. You’ll work using data, analytical thinking and fraud prevention expertise to help reduce losses while protecting approval rates and the experience of our merchants and their customers.

This is an opportunity to work on complex, high-impact fraud challenges in a global environment. We expect you to operate with autonomy, build a deep understanding of fraud performance and turn your analysis into practical strategies and recommendations that improve how we prevent fraud over time.

What you’ll do
  • Contribute to fraud prevention strategy for SumUp’s acquiring business across Brazil, Mexico and the United States.
  • Analyze large and complex datasets to identify fraud trends, emerging patterns, performance changes, anomalies and opportunities for improvement.
  • Design, configure, test and optimize decision-engine rules, thresholds and authentication strategies in line with business needs and fraud risk.
  • Monitor fraud, chargeback, approval-rate and false-positive performance, using relevant metrics to assess the effectiveness of prevention strategies.
  • Investigate the root causes of changes in performance and recommend clear, data-driven actions.
  • Own analytical workstreams from problem definition through analysis, recommendation, implementation and impact measurement.
  • Respond effectively to changing fraud patterns and support the development of appropriate mitigation strategies when new risks emerge.
  • Translate regulatory and card-scheme requirements into effective and actionable fraud controls.
  • Communicate insights, risks, trade-offs and recommendations clearly to stakeholders across the business.
  • Build strong working relationships with Fraud Operations, Disputes, Product, Engineering, Legal, Compliance, Finance and regional teams.
  • Contribute to a consistent, well-documented and continuously improving approach to fraud prevention.
What we expect from you
  • You will take ownership of fraud prevention topics within your scope and move work forward with a high level of autonomy.
  • You will combine technical analysis with sound judgement, considering fraud losses, false positives, approval rates, merchant conversion and user experience when making recommendations.
  • You will be curious about how fraud evolves and continuously look for ways to strengthen prevention strategies.
  • You will bring structure to ambiguous problems, prioritize effectively and make decisions based on evidence.
  • You will communicate complex topics in a clear and concise way, adapting your message to technical, operational and senior audiences.
  • You will collaborate constructively across functions and influence stakeholders to support effective fraud prevention decisions.
  • You will measure the impact of your work, share learnings and use results to improve future strategies.
  • You will contribute to a culture of accountability, knowledge sharing and continuous learning within the Fraud Prevention team.
You’ll be great for this role if…
  • You have proven experience in fraud prevention, fraud strategy, risk management or a related analytical role within payments, fintech or another data-driven environment.
  • You have advanced SQL and Python skills, including experience working with data pipelines and analyzing large datasets.
  • You have hands‑on experience configuring fraud decision engines, rule‑based systems, transaction monitoring or authentication strategies.
  • You are a power user of Tableau or a similar business intelligence and data visualization platform.
  • You have practical knowledge of applied statistics and modelling, including A/B testing, classification or regression.
  • You have strong knowledge of Brazilian Card-Present and Card‑Not‑Present fraud patterns and the ability to apply that knowledge to fraud strategy.
  • You understand how to balance merchant conversion, approval rates, fraud losses and false positives when making decisions.
  • You can translate complex analysis into clear, actionable recommendations and communicate confidently with technical, operational and senior stakeholders.
  • You are proactive, autonomous and comfortable solving ambiguous problems in a fast‑changing environment.
  • You have strong prioritization and execution skills, with a growth mindset and the ability to adapt quickly as fraud patterns and business needs change.
  • You communicate at an advanced to fluent level in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • You have a degree in Engineering, Statistics, Mathematics, Physics or a related quantitative field.
It would be a plus if you have
  • Participation in industry working groups, webinars or communities focused on Brazilian fraud trends.
  • Knowledge of acquirer settlement flows and interchange economics.
  • Experience working with card‑scheme requirements, regulatory changes or fraud controls in the Brazilian payments market.
