Genpact is seeking a Cataloguing Specialist to manage and enrich material master data across multiple industrial verticals, ensuring accuracy and standards compliance. You will extract, interpret, and document technical specs from supplier information and engineering drawings, and collaborate with vendors to fill data gaps.

Key duties include cleansing, enriching, and standardizing catalog records, mapping UNSPSC codes, and maintaining data quality against service metrics.

The Cataloguing Specialist is responsible for managing, cleansing, enriching, and standardizing material and product master data across multiple industrial verticals. The role ensures data accuracy, compliance with international standards (e.g., UNSPSC), and timely completion of cataloguing processes in alignment with business rules and service metrics.

Core Competencies

• Expertise in Material Data Management (MDM), including material master creation, maintenance, governance, and quality assurance.
• Strong capability in data analysis techniques to identify gaps, duplicates, inconsistencies, and non-compliance with defined data standards.
• Proven ability to cleanse, enrich, standardize, normalize, and validate product and material master data.
• Ability to identify and classify materials from limited or basic item descriptions across multiple engineering and industrial domains.

Technical Cataloguing Expertise

• Experience cataloguing materials and service commodities across:
• Mechanical
• Electrical
• Instrumentation and Controls
• Safety Equipment
• Earth Moving Machinery
• Heavy Construction Equipment
• Transport Equipment
• Ability to extract, interpret, and develop complete technical specifications and characteristics from basic inputs, supplier information, catalogues, drawings, and technical documents.
• Competence in assigning accurate item descriptions, attributes, nomenclature, units of measure, manufacturer part numbers, and classification details.
• Good knowledge of UNSPSC classification and the ability to map UNSPSC codes to customized material groups, commodity codes, or internal category structures.

Engineering Documentation Knowledge

• Working knowledge of reviewing and interpreting:
• Engineering drawings
• Process Data Sheets
• Single Line Diagrams (SLDs)
• Parts Lists and Bills of Materials
• Manufacturer catalogues and datasheets
• Vendor technical documentation
• Ability to determine technical and functional material characteristics from engineering and supplier documentation.

Data Quality and Governance

• Ability to analyze material data against established business rules, naming conventions, standards, and governance requirements.
• Experience identifying incorrect, incomplete, duplicate, inconsistent, or non-standard data and coordinating corrections with relevant business units.
• Ability to maintain accuracy, consistency, completeness, and timeliness of cataloguing deliverables.
• Knowledge of vendor-based material master data management, including validation of supplier-submitted data through various business channels.
• Ability to ensure material records comply with defined service-level metrics, quality standards, and turnaround‑time requirements.

Stakeholder and Vendor Coordination

• Ability to obtain missing technical or classification information from clients, business users, manufacturers, and vendors.
• Strong communication and follow-up skills for resolving data gaps and clarification requests.
• Customer‑focused approach with responsiveness, ownership, and commitment to service delivery.
• Ability to work independently while coordinating effectively with cross‑functional teams.

• Lookup functions such as XLOOKUP, VLOOKUP, INDEX-MATCH
• Logical and text functions
• Duplicate identification and reconciliation
• Basic reporting and analysis
• Proficiency in other Microsoft Office applications, including Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

Preferred Skills and Qualifications

• Basic working knowledge of SAP, particularly for referring to, reviewing, and validating material master records, procurement‑related data, and inventory information.
• Prior work experience in mining, metals, minerals, heavy engineering, construction, or other asset‑intensive industrial environments.
• Familiarity with materials, equipment, and spare parts commonly used in mining operations, including mobile equipment, conveyors, crushers, pumps, motors, electrical systems, safety equipment, and maintenance spares.
• Knowledge of engineering standards and international standards relevant to material identification, technical specifications, and cataloguing.
• Familiarity with commonly used standards such as ISO, ASTM, ASME, ANSI, DIN, BS, IEC, IEEE, NEMA, API, and EN, as applicable to the relevant material category.
• Ability to interpret standard references, dimensions, ratings, material grades, tolerances, pressure classes, electrical ratings, and other technical parameters while creating or validating catalogue records.
• Understanding of how applicable engineering and international standards support accurate material descriptions, interchangeability, procurement specifications, and data standardization.
• Ability to use SAP reference data and engineering standards to validate, enrich, and maintain high‑quality material master data.
