Jobgether is seeking a Senior Back-End Java Developer based in Brazil to design, develop, and sustain high-quality backend services using Java in a modern tech environment. You will contribute to scalable, secure, and high-performing applications while working with Product, Architecture, and DevOps teams.

A key part of the role is integrating AI agents into backend systems and leveraging generative AI tools to improve code quality, testing, and modernization efforts.

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Back-End Java Developer based in Brazil. This role offers the opportunity to develop, evolve, and sustain high-quality backend solutions using Java in a modern technology environment. You will contribute to scalable, secure, and high-performing applications while participating in architectural and technical decisions. A key part of the role is supporting the development and integration of AI agents into backend systems, creating intelligent and reliable services and workflows. You will also leverage generative AI tools to improve development productivity, code quality, testing, documentation, and modernization efforts. Working closely with Product, Architecture, DevOps, and other multidisciplinary teams, you will help translate business needs into robust technical solutions. As a senior professional, you will also act as a technical reference and support the continuous development of other engineers.

Accountabilities

• Backend Development: Design, develop, maintain, and evolve backend services and applications using Java, ensuring scalability, reliability, security, and performance.
• AI Agent Integration: Support the development, evolution, and integration of AI agents with existing backend systems, contributing to the services, APIs, logic, and workflows that enable intelligent solutions.
• API & Service Development: Build and maintain reliable backend services and APIs that support business applications and AI-driven capabilities.
• Generative AI Enablement: Use tools such as Cursor, Claude Opus, Copilot, or similar solutions to accelerate development, support refactoring, analyze legacy code, improve testing, and enhance technical documentation.
• Architecture & Modernization: Contribute to software architecture decisions and initiatives involving system evolution, legacy modernization, engineering practices, and AI-enabled solutions.
• Legacy Engineering: Perform reverse engineering of existing systems to support the development of new platforms, modernization initiatives, and continuous improvement.
• Quality & Performance: Apply Clean Code, SOLID principles, Design Patterns, automated testing, code reviews, and other engineering best practices while monitoring and optimizing application performance.
• Technical Leadership: Participate in technical and strategic decisions, mentor junior and mid-level developers, and promote knowledge sharing and continuous learning across the team.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Product, Architecture, DevOps, and other stakeholders to align technical solutions with business objectives and delivery needs.
• Innovation: Evaluate and adopt new technologies and AI-based development tools when they can deliver meaningful improvements in efficiency, quality, and engineering outcomes.

Requirements

• Java Development: Solid professional experience in backend development using Java, with strong software engineering fundamentals.
• APIs: Experience developing and integrating REST and/or GraphQL APIs.
• Databases: Knowledge of both relational and non-relational databases and their application in backend architectures.
• Cloud & Infrastructure: Experience with cloud computing, particularly AWS, along with knowledge of Docker and Kubernetes.
• DevOps & Version Control: Hands-on experience with Git and CI/CD pipelines, supporting reliable and automated software delivery.
• AI Development Tools: Practical experience or familiarity with generative AI tools such as Cursor, Claude Opus, Copilot, or similar solutions for software development.
• AI Agents: Interest or experience contributing to the development of AI agents and intelligent solutions integrated with backend services.
• Software Quality: Strong understanding of Clean Code, SOLID, Design Patterns, automated testing, code review, documentation, and maintainable software practices.
• Observability: Experience with monitoring and observability platforms such as Datadog, Dynatrace, Splunk, or Grafana is a plus.
• Agile Delivery: Experience working with Agile methodologies such as Scrum or Kanban.
• Technical Certifications: AWS, Kubernetes, Java, or other relevant technical certifications are considered a plus.
• Innovation Mindset: Experience in technology innovation or digital transformation initiatives, particularly involving generative AI throughout the software development lifecycle, is desirable.
• English: Advanced English proficiency, with the ability to participate in technical meetings, read and produce technical documentation, and collaborate with international stakeholders.
• Collaboration & Leadership: Strong communication, mentoring, problem-solving, and collaboration skills, with the ability to act as a technical reference for other developers.
