Job Purpose
The Crane Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of pedestal cranes and other lifting equipment onboard, supporting ship-to-ship and inboard lifting operations in accordance with established procedures, operating limits, and company safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate pedestal cranes in accordance with established procedures, operating limits, and safety requirements;
- Drive pedestal cranes during ship-to-ship and inboard lifting operations;
- Inspect lifting gear regularly and prior to the commencement of lifting operations;
- Perform predictive and routine maintenance activities related to pedestal cranes in accordance with procedures and CMMS work orders;
- Communicate effectively with riggers, signal persons, and site supervisors to coordinate lifting operations safely and efficiently;
- Monitor lifting operations and ensure compliance with applicable procedures and safety requirements;
- Respond appropriately to emergency situations and participate in emergency response activities as required;
- Perform routine maintenance activities and promptly report mechanical, operational, or safety-related issues;
- Maintain accurate records of crane operations, maintenance activities, inspections, and relevant equipment conditions;
- Ensure compliance with onboard safety procedures, company policies, and applicable regulatory requirements;
- Maintain a strong safety-focused approach throughout all lifting and crane operations.
Requirements
- Valid Crane Operator certification/licence applicable to offshore lifting operations;
- Previous experience operating pedestal cranes in offshore, FPSO, maritime, or oil & gas environments;
- Demonstrated experience with ship-to-ship and inboard lifting operations;
- Knowledge of lifting equipment, lifting gear, and safe lifting practices;
- Familiarity with crane inspection, maintenance, and CMMS work orders;
- Ability to communicate effectively with riggers, signal persons, and supervisors during lifting operations;
- Knowledge of offshore safety procedures and emergency response requirements;
- Basic to intermediate English communication skills;
- Strong teamwork, communication, discipline, and safety-oriented mindset;
- Ability to work effectively in an offshore environment and follow established procedures and operating limits.
