Position Overview
Amalfi Foods is seeking an experienced Senior Accountant with a strong background in FMCG, food manufacturing, or a similar high-volume manufacturing environment.
The Senior Accountant will take a leading role within the finance function, supervising the accounting team and ensuring that the company's accounting, costing, reporting, controls, and financial procedures are properly structured and consistently followed.
The role requires a hands-on professional who can strengthen the existing finance function, identify and close accounting gaps, improve reporting accuracy, and provide management with timely and reliable financial information.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Accounting & Month-End Closing
- Lead and supervise the monthly accounting closing process.
- Ensure all accounting entries, accruals, provisions, reconciliations, and adjustments are completed accurately and on time.
- Maintain the accuracy and integrity of the general ledger.
- Ensure proper reconciliation of bank accounts, suppliers, customers, inventory, fixed assets, and intercompany accounts.
- Review balance sheet accounts and investigate outstanding or unusual balances.
- Establish a disciplined monthly closing calendar and ensure deadlines are achieved.
Management Reporting
- Prepare comprehensive monthly management reports for senior management.
- Produce monthly Profit & Loss, Balance Sheet and Cash Flow reports.
- Prepare budget-versus-actual and month-on-month variance analysis.
- Highlight financial trends, risks, unusual expenses, margin movements, and areas requiring management attention.
- Support management with meaningful financial analysis rather than only accounting data.
Manufacturing Costing
- Develop and maintain accurate product costing across the company's product portfolio.
- Review:
- Raw material costs
- Packaging costs
- Direct labour
- Manufacturing overhead
- Production efficiencies
- Waste and yield
- Finished goods costing
- Maintain and regularly review standard costs versus actual production costs.
- Work closely with Operations, Production, Supply Chain and Procurement to understand and explain cost variances.
- Support management in evaluating product profitability, pricing, margins and new product launches.
Inventory & Cost Control
- Strengthen inventory accounting and controls covering raw materials, packaging, work-in-progress and finished goods.
- Reconcile physical inventory with ERP/accounting records.
- Investigate stock variances, write-offs, wastage and abnormal consumption.
- Participate in periodic stock counts and ensure proper procedures are followed.
- Monitor slow-moving, obsolete and damaged inventory.
Accounting Controls & Procedures
- Review the existing accounting function and identify control or process gaps.
- Develop and implement proper accounting policies, procedures and internal controls.
- Ensure appropriate approval processes and segregation of duties are maintained.
- Establish documented procedures for:
- Accounts Payable
- Accounts Receivable
- Inventory
- Costing
- Fixed Assets
- Expenses
- Cash and Banking
- Month-End Closing
- Ensure transactions are properly supported, approved and recorded.
Accounts Receivable & Accounts Payable
- Oversee customer receivables and collection reporting.
- Monitor overdue accounts and coordinate with the sales team regarding collections.
- Review supplier aging and payment planning.
- Ensure supplier reconciliations are completed regularly.
- Support management with working-capital visibility and cash requirements.
Team Leadership
- Lead, supervise and develop the accounting team.
- Allocate responsibilities and establish clear deadlines.
- Review the quality and accuracy of work performed by team members.
- Build accountability and discipline within the finance department.
- Train junior accounting staff and improve overall department capability.
Audit, Compliance & Tax
- Coordinate with external auditors and support the annual audit process.
- Ensure proper documentation and audit readiness throughout the year.
- Support VAT and other statutory reporting requirements.
- Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards, company policies and Bahrain regulatory requirements.
ERP & Process Improvement
- Ensure accounting processes are properly implemented within the company's ERP system.
- Experience with Odoo or similar ERP systems would be highly advantageous.
- Identify opportunities to automate repetitive accounting and reporting processes.
- Improve the quality, speed and reliability of financial information available to management.
Candidate Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline.
- Professional qualification such as ACCA, CMA, CPA, CA or equivalent is preferred.
- Minimum 7–10 years of accounting experience, with significant experience in FMCG, food manufacturing or manufacturing.
- Previous experience supervising or leading an accounting team.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing costing and inventory accounting.
- Strong experience in monthly closing and management reporting.
- Excellent knowledge of accounting controls, reconciliations and financial procedures.
- Strong analytical ability and attention to detail.
- Advanced Excel skills.
- Experience with ERP systems; Odoo experience is an advantage.
- Ability to work hands-on while also improving systems and processes.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work with Operations, Sales, Procurement and senior management.
