Job summary

SVITZER is a leading global towage company with a large fleet of tugs and thousands of employees. The Engine Rating reports to the Chief Engineer and ensures the vessel is always available for deployment in a safe, efficient manner in line with HMS policies and local regulations.

You will perform tasks safely, participate in safety drills, and assist with maintenance of engine rooms and decks. English is preferred; STCW training and sea time as an oiler are required.

Qualifications

• English language understanding is preferred.
• At least 24 months of sea time as an oiler.
• STCW training and medical clearance meet seafaring standards.

Responsibilities

• The Engine Rating reports to the Chief Engineer.
• Keeps vessel ready for deployment in a safe, efficient manner as directed by the Chief Engineer and HMS/local regulations.
• Performs tasks safely and asks for guidance from the Chief Engineer when in doubt.
• Proposes initiatives to raise onboard safety levels.
• Actively participates in safety training and drills onboard.
• Performs duties assigned by the Chief Engineer related to tasks on the vessel.
• Maintains and cleans deck, engine room, and accommodation as instructed.
• Stops work when unsafe and follows the Take 5 process; Master instructs actions.
• Knows Proactive and Near Miss Reporting procedures for safety.
• Complies with company safety management system regulations.
• Conducts induction training for visitors and authorized personnel onboard.
