This position should be capable of performing a variety of welding functions. The individual should be familiar with and capable of using various types of welding equipment. A welder is also required to perform other miscellaneous tasks, as deems necessary
Responsibilities
This position description is subject to change at any time as needed to meet the requirements of the program or company.
- Reads and interprets blueprints and machine drawings to determine specific welding requirements.
- Oversees preventive and corrective maintenance work performed by junior welders
- Welds in flat, horizontal, vertical, or overhead positions and oversees subordinates
- Ensures consumable materials are on hand and in significant quantities as to not run out
- Repairs broken or cracked parts and fills holes. Examines weld for bead size and other specifications.
- Positions and clamps workpieces together or assemble them in jig or fixtures.
- Selects torch, torch tip, filler rod and flux, according to welding chart specifications or type and thickness of material.
- Cleans or de-greases parts. Chips off excess weld, slag, and spatter.
- Performs all necessary maintenance and repair on all equipment used in welding.
- Be able to move parts in and move finished product out of welding area.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Minimum Qualifications
- Education/Certifications: One-year related experience may be substituted for one year of education if degree is required.
- High School diploma required.
- Must be a US citizen
- Must possess a valid US driver’s license
- Welding certification preferred
- Experience:
- Ten (10) years of directly related work experience required.
- Incumbent must demonstrate a high degree of English comprehension, including speaking, understanding, reading, writing, and typing.
- Must be detailed oriented and organized.
- Skills:
- Interpersonal and communication skills are requirements of this position as there is constant interaction with military personnel.
- Working Environment:
- This position works indoors/outdoors and expect to work in conditions of moderate heat and frequent rain (i.e. - heat, humidity, etc.).
- Prolonged exposure in above-described environments is often necessary. Incumbents should be able to lift, push, and pull 40lbs. Work environment is often fast paced and at times requires exposure to high heat and humidity.
- Physical Requirements:
- Medium work. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
