Intuitive Surgical is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to design, build, and operate a unified, Bazel-based build system across robotic surgery platforms. You will own core build architecture, write Rust/C/C++/Python tooling, and drive speed, correctness, and productivity in large safety-critical codebases.

You will mentor teams, evolve CI infrastructure, and optimize remote caching/execution while collaborating with firmware and platform groups.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of professional software engineering experience with hands-on ownership.
• Deep, practical expertise with Bazel in complex C/C++ and embedded environments.
• Proven experience implementing Bazel Remote Caching and Remote Execution at scale.
• Strong programming experience in Rust, C/C++, and Python.
• Experience debugging and optimizing distributed build systems, CI pipelines, and build infrastructure.
• Understanding of compiler toolchains, linkers, and build graph behavior.
• Ability to communicate technical tradeoffs clearly and influence teams.

Responsabilités

• Design, implement, and maintain Bazel-based build systems for large-scale C/C++ embedded software.
• Directly implement and optimize Bazel Remote Caching and Remote Execution (RBE).
• Write production code in Rust, C/C++, and Python to support tooling and workflows.
• Own and evolve build performance, cache hit rates and parallelism.
• Build and maintain developer-facing tooling to speed local iterations and CI reliability.
• Integrate build infra across on-premises and cloud environments with security in mind.
• Collaborate with firmware, platform, and app teams to fix real build issues.
• Improve observability of build systems with metrics and logging.
• Mentor engineers and promote modern build practices and scalable workflows.
