Qargo TMS is seeking a Backend Software Engineer in Ghent to join our international team. You will design, build, and maintain robust backend services and APIs powering our cloud-native Transport Management Platform.

You will work with Python, Django, GraphQL and Postgres on Google Cloud, focusing on reliability, performance, and scalability as our customer base grows across Europe. A strong ownership mindset and collaboration with cross‑functional teams are essential.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in IT/Computer Science/Software Engineering required.
• Minimum 2 years of backend development experience.
• Strong problem‑solving and communication skills.
• Growth mindset and willingness to learn and collaborate.
• User‑first mentality with impact on real-world problems.
• Experience with large production Python codebases is a plus.
• Knowledge of SQL queries in Postgres and BigQuery is a plus.

About the role

As a Backend Software Engineer at Qargo, you’ll work on the backbone of our Transport Management Platform. The systems you build and improve power everything from planning and execution to billing and reporting for logistics companies across Europe. Your work directly impacts platform reliability, performance, and scalability as our customer base continues to grow.

You’ll focus on designing, building, and maintaining robust backend services and APIs, working primarily with Python, Django, GraphQL, and our cloud-native infrastructure on Google Cloud. Beyond feature development, you’ll contribute to improving our architecture, data flows, and cloud infrastructure to ensure the platform remains resilient and future-proof.

You’ll collaborate closely with product managers, frontend engineers, and other backend engineers to translate real‑world logistics challenges into scalable technical solutions. This role offers a strong mix of hands‑on development, problem‑solving, and ownership, with plenty of room to influence technical decisions and shape how our platform evolves.

Key Responsibilities

• You'll be focused on back‑end development of the system, contributing to the core functionality of our TMS platform and working mainly with Python, Django, GraphQL, Postgres, Kubernetes (k8s), PubSub, and Google Cloud.
• You’ll work on core product features, Cloud infrastructure improvements and Backend code improvements, ensuring all systems can support the growth of our customer base.

Skills & Experience

• You have a Master’s degree in IT/Computer Science/Software Engineering and at least 2 years of experience in backend development.
• Passion for solving complex technical challenges and designing scalable software solutions. You understand technical tradeoffs and make pragmatic decisions.
• A growth mindset—eager to learn, experiment, and expand your knowledge.
• Strong problem‑solving and communication skills and the ability to work independently and in a team.
• A user‑first mentality—you care about the real‑world impact of your work.
• Enthusiasm for collaborative teamwork and a willingness to share knowledge and accomplish shared goals.
• Experience with writing and understanding complex SQL queries in Postgres & Google Cloud BigQuery is a plus.
• Knowledge of distributed queueing systems at scale is a nice to have.
• Lastly, experience with large production Python codebases also earns you bonus points.
