VITO Research in Mol, Belgium seeks a Senior Software Engineer to evolve our EO processing services, modernize the stack with cloud-native architectures, and employ AI‑assisted development tools to boost quality and velocity.

You will join an agile team of architects, developers, EO scientists and operations engineers, delivering robust, scalable software that supports public authorities, industry and research in a fast‑paced international environment.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field with 5+ years professional experience.
• Strong Python and object‑oriented programming skills.
• Proven experience in professional software engineering within an Agile environment.
• Experience in DevOps oriented settings: infrastructure, monitoring, automation.
• Experience with CI/CD and testing frameworks.
• Experience with AI‑assisted development tools.
• Cloud‑native deployments (Docker, Kubernetes) a plus.
• Experience with large‑scale data processing (Apache Spark) a plus.
• Affinity with Earth Observation, geospatial or scientific data processing.

Responsabilités

• Develop efficient services and data processing workflows for EO satellite products.
• Translate prototypes into robust, production‑grade components.
• Deliver clean, maintainable, well‑documented Python code.
• Implement microservices and APIs that integrate with processing platforms.
• Share responsibility for operational services, incident analysis and reliability improvements.
• Utilize AI‑assisted coding tools to improve efficiency and quality.
• Ensure solid automated test coverage (unit/integration/regression).
• Collaborate with architects, product owners and EO experts on designs.
• Provide 3rd‑line support for customer issues and service anomalies.
• Contribute to architecture and coding standards decisions.
