What you will do
You will join a technical development team working on SAP IS-U applications for a Belgian energy distribution company. The team operates as a shared development pool, with work allocated at the level of coherent packages such as interfaces, integrations, or self-contained development components. You will own each assignment end-to-end throughout the entire change lifecycle.
Your day-to-day responsibilities include:
- Proposing technical solutions based on functional specifications, challenging proposed approaches, and providing workload estimates
- Drafting and completing technical specifications using provided templates, ensuring compliance with the company's technical architecture
- Analysing and implementing SAP Notes
- Developing code while ensuring compliance with application standards, naming conventions, best practice guidelines, and governance rules
- Ensuring code modularity, reusing existing code libraries, and writing developments using Object-Oriented ABAP (except where agreed exceptions apply)
- Executing and documenting unit tests based on test datasets, including non-functional tests such as performance testing, query optimisation, and mass processing tests
- Working closely with the SAP Basis team on authorisations, infrastructure, and technical configuration
- Performing deployment tasks during rollouts to test, acceptance, or production environments, which may require work outside normal business hours
- Analysing and resolving defects identified during test campaigns or production incidents
- Preparing technical documentation for each developed object
As a senior developer, you will also take on more advanced assignments:
- Developing solutions for particularly complex and highly specialised topics
- Analysing and implementing Non-Functional Requirements (NFRs) in areas such as security, reliability, performance tuning, and maintainability
- Acting as a technical reference point and Single Point of Contact (SPOC) for the team on complex technical subjects
- Assisting in defining, implementing, and improving development frameworks and standards
- Supporting the design of new cross-functional and enterprise-wide solutions
- Assisting in evaluating, selecting, and introducing new technologies and tools
- Contributing expertise and sharing knowledge with the team
- Mentoring and coaching junior developers
What we are looking for
Essential requirements:
- At least 10 years of proven experience as an SAP backend developer
- Proven experience within SAP S/4HANA development and Core Data Services (CDS Views)
- Knowledge and experience in classical ABAP, Object-Oriented ABAP (use of classes), and backend development, particularly through SAP standard extensions (User-Exit, BAdI, Enhancement Spot, etc.)
- Proven experience in SAP interface development (data exchanges using IDoc/ALE, BAPI/RFC, SOAP Web Services, OData & SAP Gateway, etc.)
- At least 3 years of proven experience as a developer in SAP IS-U in the utilities sector
- Fluent in English
Highly valued:
- Proven experience with SAP key tools: SAP ABAP Workbench, Eclipse/ABAP Development Tools (ADT), and ABAP Test Cockpit (ATC)
- Proven experience in Adobe Forms
- Proven experience in Business Object Repository Objects (BOR)
- Proven experience in data migration, using LSMW and EMIGALL
- Proven experience in SAP Fiori development: Fiori Launchpad, Fiori Designer, Web-IDE, Business Application Studio (BAS), etc.
- Proven experience in SAP IS-U for utilities across at least 3 different functional domains: Device Management (DM), Structuring/Switching, Metering, Energy Data Management (EDM), Billing, Customer Services (CS), Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI)
- Master's degree in Information Technology, Economics, Industrial Engineering, or a Scientific field
Nice to have:
- Proven experience in Web Dynpro
- Proven experience in Business Rule Framework Plus (BRF+)
- Proven experience in SAP BPEM/EMMA module
- Proven experience in Business Object Layer (BOL) and SAP CRM
- Proven experience in MPM/IDEX-GC Framework

- Knowledge/experience in more specialised areas: Dynpro/Dialog Programming (screens), Forward Error Handling (FEH), Business Object Processing Framework (BOPF), Floorplan Manager (FPM) in Web Dynpro

- Fluent in French or Dutch
The setting
This assignment runs from early November 2026 to the end of April 2027, with the possibility of extension for up to 18 months.
You will work full-time, five days per week, with a minimum on-site presence of three days per week in Brussels. On-site attendance days must be aligned with the rest of the team. A secure laptop will be provided.
