E3G in Brussels is seeking a Senior Researcher to advance EU energy transition planning and financing for clean energy infrastructure. The role combines policy research, political strategy, stakeholder engagement and written communications across electric, gas and hydrogen topics; internal opportunity open to all E3Gers.

Applicants should have 3–5 years’ relevant experience, knowledge of EU politics, strong analysis, and the ability to translate complex information into clear outputs.

Responsabilités

  • Support policy analysis and political strategy on EU grid infrastructure planning and governance (electricity, gas, hydrogen).
  • Coordinate inputs, undertake research, prepare briefings for partner and stakeholder engagement on European gas grid decommissioning.
  • Monitor negotiations and gather political intelligence on Legislation and processes (Grids Package, TEN-E, TYNDP, MFF, SIU, Clean Energy Investment Strategy).
  • Produce clear internal and external outputs and engage policymakers, civil society, business and finance.
  • Collaborate with EU industry and EU sustainable finance teams to develop policy propositions on clean energy infrastructure financing.
  • Conduct research on topics including electricity grid planning/governance, hydrogen, CCS and non-wire/grid tech.
  • Contribute to broader activities of the EU energy team.

E3G is looking for a Senior Researcher to support its EU energy work to help enable the planning and financing of EU energy infrastructure that accelerates the clean energy transition. This role is and internal opportunity and all E3Gers are welcome to apply.

Role

The Senior Researcher will help enable the planning and financing of EU energy infrastructure that accelerates the clean energy transition. This role will combine policy research and analysis, political strategy, stakeholder engagement and written communications that help to enable the planning and financing of clean energy infrastructure in the EU. This will include work across the topics of EU gas phase-out, grid infrastructure planning, financing and governance (including electricity, gas and hydrogen).

Working with colleagues across E3G, the Senior Researcher will help to develop practical policy propositions, produce high-quality briefings and reports, monitor political and policy developments, and engage policymakers, civil society, business, industry, finance and other expert stakeholders. The role is suited to someone who has expertise in one, or more, relevant areas and is motivated to deepen and broaden their knowledge across the portfolio.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support E3G’s policy analysis and political strategy on EU grid infrastructure planning and governance, with a focus on electricity, gas and hydrogen.
  • Coordinate inputs, undertake research, prepare briefings and contribute to partner and stakeholder engagement on European gas grid decommissioning.
  • Monitor negotiations and stakeholder positions and gather political intelligence on relevant European legislation and processes such as the Grids Package, TEN-E, TYNDP, the MFF, SIU and the Clean Energy Investment Strategy.
  • Produce clear internal and external outputs and engaging policymakers, civil society, business, industry and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Work closely with E3G’s EU industry and EU sustainable finance teams to develop practical policy propositions on clean energy infrastructure financing.
  • Conduct research on relevant topics, including electricity grid planning and governance, integrated network planning across hydrogen and carbon capture and storage (CCS), and non-wire or innovative grid technologies.
  • Contribute to the broader activities of the EU energy team, as required.
Skills & Experience
  • Three to five years of relevant professional experience, with progressively greater responsibility and a track record of delivering high-quality work.
  • A degree, professional qualification or equivalent experience in a relevant area.
  • Knowledge and professional experience working on at least one of the following: gas demand reduction; grid planning and governance; EU finance and investment.
  • A strong understanding of EU politics, institutions and policy processes.
  • Knowledge of key energy infrastructure processes such as the TEN-E, TYNDP, gas network decommissioning or the North Seas Energy Cooperation.
  • Excellent research and analytical skills, including the ability to learn quickly, gather, synthesise, assess evidence and reach well-founded conclusions.
  • An ability to translating complex information into clear and accessible written outputs.
  • Experience engaging external stakeholders and confidence working with policymakers and experts from government, civil society, business, industry and finance.
  • Strong organisational skills, attention to detail and a focus on delivering agreed outputs, results and outcomes.
  • A good working knowledge of another European language.
