Job summary

imec, located in Leuven, Belgium, seeks an R&D Engineer for Advanced Metallization to drive next‑generation thin film processes for logic and memory devices. You will design experiments, develop low‑resistivity metal films, and optimize interfaces using ALD, CVD and PVD while collaborating across teams and with suppliers.

You hold a PhD with 5+ years in semiconductor R&D, and you communicate fluently in English.

Qualifications

PhD in Materials Science, Chemistry or Physics required.
Minimum 5 years of semiconductor industry or equivalent research experience.
Hands‑on experience with deposition tools and process development.
Familiarity with ALD, CVD and/or PVD techniques.
Knowledge of thin film properties and characterization is a plus.
Strong teamwork and international collaboration skills.
Excellent English communication and reporting abilities.

Responsibilities

Design and execute experiments to develop conformal, low‑resistivity films.
Operate ALD/CVD/PVD tools and optimize interfaces and gapfill in complex 3D architectures.
Analyze material chemistry, process conditions, and equipment interactions to improve electrical performance.
Collaborate with integration, device, and equipment teams and external suppliers.
Perform thin film characterization and root‑cause analysis to drive metallization innovations.
