Job summary

Pauwels Consulting is seeking a security expert to support a public-safety client in Brussels, focusing on securing complex application environments, continuous monitoring, and rapid threat response as part of a digital transformation.

You will manage F5 infrastructure (AWAF, APM, ASM, LTM), install components, develop security policies, and provide incident reports to stakeholders. Fluent French or Dutch and English are required; hybrid work in Brussels; contract open to permanent or freelance.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of IT security experience focused on network protection.
• Expertise in F5 infrastructure including AWAF, APM, ASM, LTM, and SSL VPN.
• Strong knowledge of network and application firewalls (Palo Alto, Forcepoint, Panorama).
• Proficiency in TCP/IP, HTTP/HTTPS, SSL, SNMP.
• Experience with monitoring/log correlation tools (Splunk, Nessus, Elastic SIEM).
• Ability to perform risk analyses and remediation.
• Crisis management and incident response experience.
• Documentation of technical processes.
• Fluent in French or Dutch and technical English.

The role focuses on securing complex application environments while ensuring continuous monitoring and rapid response to security threats.

Responsibilities

• Manage and maintain F5 infrastructure, specifically the Advanced Web Application Firewall modules.
• Install and configure F5 components including APM, ASM, and LTM for secure application delivery.
• Develop and document technical security policies and monitor their consistent application.
• Conduct technical risk analyses and implement remediation strategies to address system vulnerabilities.
• Monitor the security state of IT systems and provide rapid intervention during network intrusions or crisis situations.
• Advise on technical solutions for securing external partner connections via intranet and internet.
• Produce comprehensive technical documentation and incident reports for internal stakeholders.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience in IT security with a focus on network protection and infrastructure management.
• Expertise in F5 infrastructure including F5 AWAF, APM, ASM, LTM, Identity Provider, and SSL VPN.
• Strong knowledge of network and application firewalls such as Palo Alto, Forcepoint, and Panorama.
• Advanced proficiency in network protocols and security standards including TCP/IP, HTTP/HTTPS, SSL, and SNMP.
• Experience using monitoring and log correlation tools such as Splunk, Nessus, or Elastic SIEM.
• Proven capability in performing technical risk analyses and vulnerability remediation.
• Demonstrated experience in security crisis management and incident response.
• Methodical and precise approach with a strong ability to document technical processes.
• You are fluent in French or Dutch with at least basic knowledge of the other, and technical English.

Nice to Haves

• Knowledge of wireless network security including WPA2 and encryption principles.
• Experience with Citrix terminal-server solutions.
