What you will do
You will take responsibility for the preparation, steering and successful delivery of large and complex ICT projects within a care organisation. You will work closely with programme management, project teams, business and technical experts, management and other internal and external stakeholders.
Project management
- Lead multiple large and complex projects through their full lifecycle: from initiation and structuring to execution, monitoring, adjustment and final delivery
- Apply professional project methodologies pragmatically, translating strategic objectives into clear project goals, scope, deliverables, milestones and concrete execution plans
- Establish realistic schedules and monitor timing, budget, quality, resources, dependencies and risks
- Ensure clear project governance with well-defined roles, responsibilities, decision-making structures and escalation paths
- Safeguard coherence between your projects and other organisational projects, in close contact with the programme manager
- Identify risks, bottlenecks and dependencies in good time and take initiative to manage them
- Steer multidisciplinary project teams and ensure technical, operational and organisational interests are aligned
- Organise and facilitate steering groups and project meetings, ensuring efficient decision-making
Stakeholder management and decision-making
- Navigate a complex stakeholder environment and connect different interests
- Build strong working relationships with management, technical experts, project teams, clients, partners, suppliers and other stakeholders
- Provide clear, transparent and focused communication throughout the project lifecycle
- Advise stakeholders on progress, risks, feasibility, budget, resources and impact
- Ensure the programme manager, sponsors and steering groups have timely access to accurate information for informed decision-making
- Create support for decisions and changes, bringing stakeholders at different levels along
- Monitor agreements and ensure decisions are translated into action and results
Reporting and control
- Provide objective and up-to-date reporting on scope, planning, budget, quality, resources, risks and dependencies
- Monitor progress using clear KPIs, milestones and deliverables
- Signal deviations promptly and formulate concrete proposals for adjustment
- Ensure decision-making, responsibilities, actions and changes are properly documented and followed up
- Safeguard that projects remain aligned with strategic objectives and agreed business results, together with the programme manager
What we are looking for
Education and technical background
- Higher education at bachelor or master level with a technical or engineering background, or equivalent through relevant experience
- Demonstrable experience in technical environments where complex projects and programmes are delivered
- Understanding of the dynamics and complexity of development projects, with the ability to collaborate effectively with technical specialists and other disciplines
Experience
- At least 10 years of relevant experience leading development projects
- At least 5 years of experience leading projects within large and complex programmes
- Extensive experience with multidisciplinary project teams, complex stakeholder structures and projects with multiple interdependencies
- Experience within a PMO, portfolio or programme organisation is a strong asset
Project management expertise
- Expert knowledge of the terminology, organisation, roles, governance and processes within recognised PM methodologies such as PRINCE2; certification is a strong asset
- Knowledge of other methodologies and frameworks such as PMBOK/PMP, Agile, Scrum or SAFe is a plus
- Ability not only to apply methodology but also to transfer expertise and guide others
- Combination of methodological discipline with pragmatism: methodology supports the result and is not a goal in itself
Languages
- Excellent professional knowledge of Dutch (native level)
- Good knowledge of English

The setting
This assignment runs until the end of December 2026, with the possibility of extension. The start is as soon as possible.
The workplace is in Zwijnaarde (East Flanders), with hybrid working. You will be on-site on Tuesdays and Thursdays, with flexibility for the other days. Flexible working hours are available. You should be willing to travel to other locations in Flanders and Brussels when needed.
Dutch is the working language; English is used in some contexts.
