Job summary

Whale is seeking a Freelance GitLab/DevOps Engineer in Ghent to accelerate our production SaaS pipelines. You will audit the current CI/CD and cloud stack, define a performance plan, and implement optimizations across GitLab CI/CD, Kubernetes, and GCP.

You’ll own delivery end-to-end, including measurement, rollout, and continuous improvement, while collaborating with product and engineering teams. Ideal candidates have 5+ years in DevOps, deep GitLab CI/CD expertise, strong Linux, Docker

Qualifications

• 5+ years of DevOps/SRE/platform engineering experience in production SaaS environments.
• Deep expertise in GitLab CI/CD and ability to significantly reduce pipeline duration.
• Identify and remove CI bottlenecks through caching, parallelization, DAG optimization, runner strategy, and test splitting.
• Experience with Kubernetes in production (deployments, reliability, scaling, troubleshooting).
• Strong hands-on experience with GCP.
• Advanced experience with Docker image optimization and build performance.
• Comfort writing and maintaining automation scripts in Bash.
• Support developers working in TypeScript and Python environments.
• Experience with infrastructure as code and reproducible environments.
• Experience setting up monitoring, alerting, and incident response workflows.
• Experience maintaining and deploying production environments.
• Experience with Continuous Integration and Deployments.
• Strong Linux production experience, incident response, and release reliability.

Responsibilities

• Significantly speed up delivery pipelines and improve developer productivity.
• Audit current setup, define a performance plan, and implement concrete optimizations across GitLab CI/CD, Kubernetes, and cloud infrastructure.
• Own execution end-to-end including measurement, rollout, and continuous improvement.
