afarax is seeking a freelance Senior Functional / Business Analyst to join an Insurance project. You will translate business needs into detailed functional requirements for IT teams and work with stakeholders to clarify and challenge requirements.

You will analyse processes, create user stories and acceptance criteria, ensure traceability, and support testing in Agile ceremonies. Fluent English and French are required; Dutch is a plus for multilingual environments.

Qualifications

• Seven+ years as a Functional/Business Analyst or IT Business Analyst.
• Strong experience in insurance business analysis and processes.
• Ability to translate business needs into detailed requirements.
• Experience with complex application landscapes and system integrations.
• Proven stakeholder-management and negotiation capabilities.
• Experience in large, multidisciplinary Agile teams.
• Fluent English; French fluent; Dutch passive understanding.

The project:

Our client in the Insurance sector, is seeking an experienced Functional / Business Analyst.

Main responsibilities:

• Collaborate with business stakeholders to understand, clarify and challenge their needs.
• Translate business needs into complete, precise and structured functional requirements for IT implementation teams.
• Analyse business processes, user needs, application behaviour and system dependencies.
• Produce functional analyses, requirements, process flows, user stories and acceptance criteria.
• Understand the existing application landscape and how front-end and back-end components interact.
• Identify interfaces, dependencies, data flows and potential impacts across connected applications.
• Ensure that functional requirements are aligned with the existing solution architecture.
• Facilitate alignment between business stakeholders, Product Owners, architects, analysts and development teams.
• Prepare test scenarios and test cases to validate delivered solutions.
• Support test execution, defect clarification and functional validation when required.
• Ensure traceability between business requirements, functional specifications and delivered functionality.
• Participate actively in Agile ceremonies and contribute to continuous team improvement.
• Communicate progress, decisions, risks and functional issues clearly to all relevant stakeholders.

Is this you?

Required Experience and Expertise

• At least seven years of experience as a Functional Analyst, Business Analyst or IT Business Analyst.
• Strong experience in insurance business analysis.
• Good understanding of insurance products, processes and operational environments.
• Proven experience translating business needs into detailed functional requirements.
• Strong stakeholder-management and negotiation capabilities.
• Experience working with complex application landscapes.
• Good understanding of front-end and back-end architecture, system integration and application dependencies.
• Ability to understand how application components, interfaces and data flows are interconnected.
• Experience preparing and supporting functional testing, User Acceptance Testing and solution validation.
• Strong analytical and structured mindset, with particular attention to accuracy and completeness.
• Experience working in large, multidisciplinary Agile teams.
• Ability to collaborate with Business Product Owners, Scrum Masters, Functional Analysts, Solution Architects and front-end and back-end developers.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Team-oriented, pragmatic and comfortable working with diverse stakeholders.
• Leadership mindset and ability to facilitate alignment without direct authority.

Languages

• English: Fluent or strong professional proficiency; primary language for communication with development teams.
• French: Fluent or strong professional proficiency; required for communication with business stakeholders, Product Owners and internal colleagues.
• Dutch: Passive understanding is mandatory.
