You will combine your understanding of EU transport policy with relationship development, business development, and consortium leadership across Europe.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in EU transport or mobility consulting.
• Direct experience working for DG MOVE, DG CLIMA or comparable EU institutional clients.
• Proven experience leading complex EU research or consultancy assignments.
• Active and usable network of EU clients and consortium partners.
• Demonstrable experience originating and winning assignments or expanding client accounts.

Our customer is an independent and recognized Dutch research and consultancy firm with more than 90 years of experience. With 100+ professionals from different disciplines, they provide applied policy research, consultancy and advice to governments, the European Union, international organizations, trade associations and businesses. The company has an established position in European transport and mobility, working on policy studies, corridor studies, evaluations, impact assessments, market studies and socio-economic analysis. Its EU team works with European Commission clients, EU agencies and international partners across all 27 Member States. To support the continued growth of its EU transport and mobility portfolio, they are looking for a Principal / Senior Consultant EU Transport & Mobility.

Mission As Principal / Senior Consultant

Your mission will be to strengthen the company’s position with the European Commission and other EU institutional clients. You will combine your understanding of EU transport and mobility policy with relationship development and business development. You will identify opportunities throughout the EU policy cycle, develop ideas into propositions and bring together the right consortium partners to turn these opportunities into proposals and assignments. At the same time, you will guide colleagues, share relationships and help the wider team grow.

Key Responsibilities

Business development & client relationships

• Develop and strengthen relationships with European Commission clients and consortium partners.
• Identify opportunities before they become formal tenders.
• Translate policy developments and client needs into new ideas, propositions and assignments.
• Independently initiate client and partner conversations.
• Develop consortium concepts and bring together the right European partners.
• Contribute to winning new assignments and expanding existing client relationships.

EU transport & mobility consulting

• Work on complex European transport and mobility assignments.
• Contribute to policy studies, corridor studies, evaluations, impact assessments, market studies and socio-economic analyses.
• Use the EU policy cycle to anticipate where consultancy support may be required.
• Coordinate specialist partners while maintaining an overview of the overall assignment.
• Ensure high-quality delivery in line with the expectations of EU institutional clients.

Leadership & team development

• Guide a group of consultants and provide direction and feedback.
• Share client relationships and business development opportunities with colleagues.
• Involve junior and medior consultants in new opportunities.
• Help colleagues grow in both project delivery and client development.
• Contribute to the further development of the company’s EU transport team.

Profil

Education

• Relevant MSc, PhD or equivalent advanced degree, for example in transport economics, civil engineering, spatial planning, public policy or a related field.
• A different academic background can be considered when combined with a strong EU transport delivery record.

Languages

• Excellent professional English, both written and spoken.

Experience

• 5+ years of experience in EU transport or mobility consulting.
• Direct experience working for DG MOVE, DG CLIMA or comparable EU institutional clients.
• Proven experience leading complex EU research or consultancy assignments.
• An active and usable network of EU clients and consortium partners.
• Demonstrable experience originating and winning assignments or substantially expanding client accounts.
• Policy-cycle opportunity awareness.
• Experience across several transport modes or mobility themes is a strong plus.
• Experience with evaluations, impact assessments, socio-economic analysis or stakeholder consultation is an advantage.
