SOFICO in Ghent is hiring a Senior Backend Engineer to build a distributed workflow platform connecting Miles with the SOFICO AI Cloud. You will design reliable systems handling long-running processes, implement integrations with Java/Quarkus services and AI components, and contribute to testing, monitoring and architecture decisions.

Qualifications

• Strong backend software engineering experience, ideally with Java or another modern backend language.
• Experience building distributed, asynchronous or event-driven systems in production.
• Understanding of reliability design around failures, retries, state and transactions.
• Experience with microservices, APIs and automated testing.
• Experience with workflow/orchestration tech (Temporal, Camunda, Conductor or similar).
• Experience with Java/Quarkus, Kafka, RabbitMQ or similar event-driven technologies.
• Experience with AI platforms or cloud/enterprise environments.

Responsabilités

• Build reliable distributed workflows coordinating business-critical processes across Miles and SOFICO AI Cloud.
• Design systems that remain reliable when things go wrong, including retries and compensating actions.
• Develop integrations between the workflow platform, Java/Quarkus services, AI components and enterprise systems.
• Build strong testing, monitoring and observability around long-running business processes.
• Help shape engineering standards and architecture of a new platform at the intersection of backend engineering and AI.
• Engage with AI-assisted software engineering, bringing AI tools into development processes.
