Johnson & Johnson is seeking a Scientist for R&D Interventional Oncology to execute in vitro experiments supporting target validation and preclinical drug discovery. The role requires hands‑on immunology techniques (ELISA/MSD/Luminex), sterile cell culture, and independent execution with quality data reporting.

The position is on-site in Belgium, offers a 12‑month contract, and involves collaboration across disciplines in a fast-paced environment with potential weekend or holiday duties.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in biomedical sciences or related field.
  • Extensive experience in human and murine cell culture, including sterile primary immune cell culture.
  • Experience with immunoassays (ELISA/MSD/Luminex) and flow cytometry.

Responsabilités

  • Perform 65% experimental lab work including collection and analysis of biological samples using flow cytometry, ELISA, MSD, Luminex.
  • Perform 15% drafting protocols and signals reporting.
  • Perform data analysis and graphical representation of results.
  • Maintain cell cultures and ensure safety/compliance with ELN and EHS.

Scientist R&D Interventional Oncology (INTO)
Working mode: On-site
Duration: 12 months
Hours: Full-time hours, 40 hours per week

Imagine your next project playing a key role in the evaluation and understanding of new drug concepts within exploratory immuno-oncology, driving the next healthcare breakthrough in a high-performing, dynamic team.

The scientist is part of a dynamic, multi‑disciplinary team in exploratory immuno‑oncology, playing a key role in the evaluation and understanding of new drug concepts. The scientist is responsible for the execution of lab‑based experiments to support the validation of targets and preclinical drug discovery projects. In detail, responsibilities include designing, implementing, monitoring and analysing in vitro experimental work. This position requires hands‑on expertise in multiple immunological techniques including ELISA/MSD/Luminex and experience with sterile cell culture and manipulation. Furthermore, the scientist is responsible for the independent execution of experiments, analysis of results and graphical data representation.

roles and responsibilities
  • Perform 65% experimental lab work, including collection and analysis of biological samples (cells/tissue/blood/plasma/serum/supernatant) using techniques such as flow cytometry, ELISA, MSD, Luminex, etc.
  • Perform 15% drafting protocols and Signals reporting.
  • Perform 10% analysis of data, graphical representation, and literature searches to confirm data.
  • Perform 5% maintenance of cell cultures.
  • Perform 5% meetings with the extended team, colleagues, supervisor, etc.
  • Manage and plan multiple experiments efficiently.
  • Perform data analysis and interpretation.
  • Collaborate with scientists in multiple disciplines.
  • Maintain an excellent compliance level with Electronic Lab Notebook reporting (ELN) and Environmental Health and Safety regulations (EHS).
  • Handle smaller day‑to‑day or infrequent tasks such as lab cleaning, supply inventory keeping, following appropriate trainings, unpacking orders and shipments, and upholding safety compliance.
  • Note that this position may require occasional weekend, evening, and holiday dosing/animal monitoring.
how to succeed
  • Required Minimum Education: Master’s degree in Biomedical Sciences, Biotechnology, Biology or Genetic Engineering.
  • Required Related Experience: Relevant experience in a laboratory environment.
  • Extensive experience in human and murine cell culture work, including sterile primary immune cell and cell line culture techniques.
  • Required experience in the isolation and analysis of cells/tissue/blood/plasma/serum using cellular and molecular biology techniques such as flow cytometry (FACS) or immunoassays (ELISA/MSD/Luminex/Western Blotting), in vitro stimulation, and cellular assays.
  • Experience with FACS analysis software, specifically required FlowJo or Cytobank knowledge.
  • Required knowledge of GraphPad for statistical analysis and graphical representation.
  • Required knowledge of Immunohistochemistry.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Fluent in written and spoken English with strong communication and reporting skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills, experimental documentation, and a proven ability to work collaboratively in a fast‑paced, highly matrixed, interactive environment is essential.
  • Experience with cell death analysis (Incucyte, etc.) is a plus.
  • Preferred Area of Study: A background in immunology and oncology is a plus.

This role offers a very competitive hourly rate. This contract will initially run for 12 months.
