Job summary

Wilson & Sterling Consulting is seeking an RPG/AS400 Developer/Analyst to design, develop, test, and maintain IT applications on IBM i (AS/400). You will collaborate with business users, translate requirements into working solutions, and contribute to release management.

The role involves analyzing user needs, providing practical improvements, and ensuring documentation is kept up to date while working in a team-oriented environment.

Qualifications

• Degree in IT or equivalent experience.
• Junior profile: 2+ years of experience.
• Senior profile: 5+ years of experience.

Responsibilities

• Realize IT projects according to approved functional specifications and within budget and planning.
• Develop and adapt programs on AS/400 IBM/i using RPG IV/ILE, CL, SQL, and related tools.
• Test developments before user testing and conduct code reviews.
• Maintain and improve existing IT applications and related documentation.
• Support business users, define availability levels, and elaborate escalation procedures.
• Analyze needs with key users and ensure timely delivery under deadlines.

Job description

Our client is a renowned Insurance provider across Europe looking to expand their AS/400 Operations & is looking an RPG Analyst / Developer.

As a RPG/ AS400 Developer/Analyst, you will develop new and maintain/adapt/improve existing IT applications on the business's demand by programming independently in a stipulated programming language, supporting projects, and collaborating in a team.

Contribute to and validate the functional analysis and specification of requests for IT developments:

• Realize IT projects according to approved functional specifications and within the approved budget and planning. Conduct code reviews and follow-up release management.
• Develop new programs or adapt existing programs in respect of the existing standards.
• Test new developments before submitting them to the key-user for user testing

Maintain and improve existing IT applications:

• Handle all incoming requests related to the applications you're responsible for Tickets.
• Correct bugs in the applications you're responsible for
• Analyze root causes of frequent problems and propose fundamental solutions.
• Realize approved improvements
• Maintain user and technical documentation

Support business users in the usage of the existing IT applications:

• Define the required availability levels and response times with the business owners.
• Elaborate support procedures, with escalation to external parties where appropriate.
• Measure and report the achieved availability levels and response times.
• Assist users in the improved usage of the existing applications.

Required skills and competencies

• Should have a degree in IT, or similar experience
• Junior profile: Minimum 2 years of experience
• Senior profile: minimum 5 years of experience

Technical knowledge:

• AS400 IBM/I
• Database: DB2
• RPG IV/ILE, Free RPG, Service Programs, CL, DFU, RLU, MQ, SQL, SDA
• Be a motivated team player, positively contributing to the team's objective.
