Space Applications Services NV/SA is seeking a researcher/developer to advance multi-robot coordination and mission planning for defence, aerial, and terrestrial robotic systems in the Brussels area. The role collaborates with the Robotics Software and Intelligence Division Manager and starts as soon as possible.

Candidates should have MSc/PhD in AI/Robotics or related fields, strong C++/Python skills on Linux, and extensive ROS experience.

• Demonstrated background in multi-robot and swarm systems.
• Strong programming skills in C++ and Python on Linux with Git.
• Thorough experience of Software development in ROS and simulation frameworks.
• Fluent in English with strong technical documentation delivery.

Responsabilidades

• Analyse and develop mission planning techniques including goal decomposition, task allocation and path planning.
• Manage execution of missions on the edge by interfacing with robot navigation and task management software.
• Develop centralized and decentralized methods for inter-robot replanning to achieve common goals.
• Work with swarming behaviours and limited wireless communication between robots.
• End-to-end implementation with testing, integration and optimization on target robot architecture.
• Integrate developed technologies with robotic control centres and ground and aerial robots.
• Generate the required technical documentation throughout the process.

This role is focused on the development of multi-robot coordination and cooperation capabilities, including multi-agent mission planning, task allocation, path planning, and adaptive decision-making for defense, aerial, and terrestrial robotic systems.

The successful candidate will report to the Robotics Software an Intelligence Division Manager.

Tasks and Responsibilities

• Analyse and develop mission planning techniques composed of goal decomposition, tasks allocation and path/trajectory planning

• Manage the execution of missions on the edge by interfacing with robot navigation and task management software

• Centralised and de-centralised methods for inter-robot replanning of tasks to achieve common goal

• Acquainted with swarming behaviours and management of limited wireless communication between robots

• Conduct end-to-end implementation with testing, integration and optimisation on target robot architecture

• Implement the developed technologies and integration with robotic control centres, and ground and aerial robots

• Generate the technical documentation required all along the process.

Skills and Experience

• MSc or PhD in relevant fields (e.g. AI/Machine Learning, robotics, multi-agent systems, computer science, software engineering)

• Demonstrated background – theoretical and/or practical in multi-robot and swarm systems

• Strong theoretical and/or practical background (one or more):

  • AI and/or optimisation techniques

  • Symbolic planning and task allocation via negotiation

  • Planning domain description (PDDL)

  • Ontology based knowledge representation

  • Semantic reasoning

  • Inter-robot communication strategies

• Very strong programming skills (C++, Python) on Linux environment and Git tools

• Thorough experience of Software development in ROS and simulation frameworks

• Strength to cope with schedules and deadlines

• Fluent in English, both spoken and written with good skills in technical documentation delivery.
