McKinsey & Company is looking for a candidate to join the Battery Accelerator Team, focusing on trends across the battery value chain and delivering data-driven strategic insights. You will work with leaders across cell makers, OEMs, suppliers and investors to accelerate electrification efforts from Brussels, Munich or Amsterdam.

You will be part of a global battery think tank that values rigorous analysis, mentorship, and impactful client work, with strong opportunities for professional growth

Qualifications

• Master's degree in (electro-)chemistry, materials science, physics, chemical/materials engineering, electrical/mechanical engineering, or related analytical field preferred.
• Academic background and/or first professional experience in batteries, electrification, energy storage or the battery value chain highly valued.
• Strong interest in battery technologies and a commitment to developing subject-matter expertise to support McKinsey teams and clients.
• Proficiency in MS Excel and PowerPoint required; experience in Python and data management/visualization tools (SQL, Tableau, Power BI) is a strong plus.
• Comfort using AI tools and automation to streamline analysis and accelerate development of client-facing assets.
• Strong analytical and quantitative skills, with a problem-solving mindset.
• Ability to work confidently with senior stakeholders in fast-paced and sometimes ambiguous environments.
• Strong process management skills; capable of coordinating multiple workstreams independently.
• Excellent verbal and written English communication skills; additional language skills are a plus (Mandarin, German, Korean).

Your Impact

You’ll analyze trends and opportunities across the battery value chain - including cell manufacturing, cathode and anode materials, and battery technologies.

You’ll build proprietary market models and decision tools, and collaborate with cell makers, OEMs, suppliers and investors to deliver strategic insights.

You’ll bring a deep understanding of the battery ecosystem - from raw materials and cell chemistry to gigafactory operations and market dynamics - and a passion for translating data into strategic recommendations. You should be comfortable using AI tools and basic coding to enhance workflows and modeling.

You will be part of the firm's think tank for innovation and decision support across the battery value chain. We help business leaders and policymakers solve critical challenges to accelerate the global shift to electrification and a low-carbon economy.

Working closely with our global network of battery experts, you'll help shape client strategies with data-backed perspectives on technologies, market outlooks, value pools, and cost and value-chain transparency across geographies.

You’ll join one of our hubs – Munich, Brussels or Amsterdam - as part of the broader Battery Accelerator Team, with 250+ members, working closely with internal experts with relevant industry experience and academic expertise.

Your Qualifications and Skills
