Mercor is seeking a detail-oriented Malayalam language data annotator for a remote contract role.

You will source publicly accessible Malayalam PDFs, annotate and transcribe text with exact character-level accuracy, and record structural relationships across multi-column layouts and handwritten forms.

The position pays $13/hour, offers remote work, and requires native Malayalam proficiency and consistent taxonomy application.

Qualifications

• Native Malayalam speaker with full command of the script.
• Experience in annotation, transcription, translation, localization, or regional-language data review.
• Exact character-level accuracy.
• Systematic application of taxonomy across pages.
• Comfort with unfamiliar layouts like multi-column newspapers and handwritten forms.

Responsibilities

• Source documents: find publicly accessible Malayalam PDFs with multimodal elements and record their sources.
• Annotate structure: identify and bound every meaningful region of the page and assign component types and reading-order indices.
• Record relationships: link each region to its parent component through an identifier.
• Transcribe faithfully: reproduce all text exactly as it appears in Malayalam script , flagging illegible regions.
• Capture page metadata: document language, type, source, dimensions, and flags for tables, formulas, and handwriting.
• Review a colleague's work: experienced annotators review tasks end to end.
