Qualifications

• Native Japanese speaker with full kanji, hiragana, and katakana control.
• Professional experience in interpretation, journalism, transcription, translation, or editorial work.
• Exact character-level accuracy, prioritizing precision over speed.
• Systematic approach applying a taxonomy consistently across documents.
• Comfort with unusual layouts like vertical text and multi-column newspapers.

Responsabilités

• Source publicly accessible Japanese PDFs with multimodal elements and record their origins.
• Annotate structure by bounding regions, assigning component types and reading order indices.
• Link regions to parent components (figures, tables) to record relationships.
• Transcribe faithfully, reproducing all text, including kanji, hiragana, katakana, and handwriting.
• Capture page metadata: language, document type, source, page dimensions, and table/handwriting flags.
• Review a colleague's work to ensure end-to-end quality by another Japanese expert.
