Job summary

OTIV, a Ghent-based leader in autonomous rail technology, seeks an Electromechanical Hardware Engineer to advance mechanical development of next-generation rail systems from concept through prototyping to production. You will work across mechanical, electrical, thermal, and RF domains, ensuring reliable, manufacturable designs and integration with suppliers.

You will collaborate with internal teams and external partners, manage BOMs and documentation in PLM, and contribute to on-site EU

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent).
• 5+ years in mechanical hardware design, preferably in transportation/industrial environments.
• Proficient CAD skills (Fusion 360, SolidWorks, CREO).
• Experience with DFx (DFM, DFA, DFT, DFR) and reliability testing.
• Understanding of thermal design and material selection for rugged systems.
• Knowledge of cabling/wiring integration and EMI considerations.
• Experience with PLM/BoM documentation and installation guides.
• Strong cross-team communication and collaboration abilities.

Responsibilities

• Create mechanical designs for hardware mounts, enclosures, and integration components using CAD tools.
• Drive product development from concept to production with DFM/DFX principles.
• Define and execute test and validation plans (FAI, thermal, vibration, EMC).
• Select materials and components meeting durability and compliance requirements.
• Develop installation manuals, BoMs, and interface specifications.
• Create electrical integration diagrams between system and tram/train interfaces.
• Manage suppliers and prototyping partners to ensure quality delivery.
• Perform root cause analysis for mechanical failures or integration issues.
• Support on-site installations and client visits in the EU.
• Collaborate with sales, QA, and operations teams; maintain PLM documentation.
