Yellow5 is seeking an R&D Engineer to design, develop and validate hardware and embedded firmware for next‑generation medical devices. You’ll collaborate across software, mechanical, quality and regulatory teams, taking ownership of critical systems from day one.

The role focuses on electronic hardware design, firmware development on ARM, and V&V per IEC/ISO standards in a hybrid Liège environment. English fluency is required; French/Dutch is a plus.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Embedded Systems or related field.
• 4–7 years hardware development experience, with at least 2 years in medical devices.
• Strong embedded firmware development (C/C++) on ARM platforms.
• Hands-on PCB design with Altium, KiCad or equivalents.
• Solid knowledge of IEC 62304, IEC 60601-1, ISO 14971 and ISO 13485.
• Fluent in English; French and/or Dutch are a real asset.

Responsabilités

• Electronic hardware design: schematic design, PCB layout review, component selection.
• Develop, debug and optimize embedded firmware (C/C++) on ARM microcontrollers.
• Plan and execute V&V testing per IEC 62304 and IEC 60601-1.
• Prepare technical/regulatory documentation for CE marking and FDA submissions.
• Participate in design reviews, FMEA sessions and root cause analyses.

R&D Engineer | Hardware & Embedded Firmware (M/F/X)

On behalf of an innovative, fast-growing company in the electronic medical devices sector (Liège region), we are looking for an R&D Engineer with a passion for designing high-technology products.

You will design, develop and validate the hardware and embedded firmware of next-generation medical devices, working closely with the software, mechanical, quality and regulatory affairs teams. A demanding environment, focused on quality and patient safety, where you will take real ownership of critical systems from day one.

Your responsibilities:

• Electronic hardware design: schematic design, PCB layout review, component selection
• Development, debugging and optimisation of embedded firmware (C/C++) on ARM-based microcontrollers
• Planning and execution of verification and validation (V&V) testing in line with IEC 62304 and IEC 60601-1
• Preparation of technical and regulatory documentation (DHF, ISO 14971 risk analyses, design files) for CE marking (EU MDR 2017/745) and FDA 510(k) submissions
• Participation in design reviews, FMEA sessions and root cause analyses

Your profile:

• Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Embedded Systems or a related field
• 4 to 7 years' experience in hardware development, including at least 2 years in the medical device industry
• Strong command of embedded firmware development (C/C++) on ARM platforms
• Hands-on experience with PCB design tools (Altium, KiCad or equivalent)
• Solid knowledge of IEC 62304, IEC 60601-1, ISO 14971 and ISO 13485
• Fluent in English; French and/or Dutch is a real asset

Nice to have:

BLE and wireless communication, wearable medical devices, Git and CI/CD, cybersecurity (IEC 81001-5-1).
