Sonaca Engineering in Belgium seeks a Quality and Safety Engineer to support deployment and continuous improvement of design assurance and engineering quality across projects. You will contribute to maintaining airworthiness, safety, and design requirements while promoting a robust quality culture within multidisciplinary teams.

The role integrates governance, compliance, audits, and project quality activities, with opportunities to drive continual improvement, risk management, and collaboration

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Aerospace or related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of professional experience in engineering, quality, certification, or project management.
  • Experience in aerospace industry or regulated environments is a plus.
  • Knowledge of quality management principles and continuous improvement is advantageous.

Responsabilités

  • Maintain and improve the Engineering Quality and Design Assurance Management Systems.
  • Ensure compliance with EN9100, EASA Part 21 Subpart J and customer requirements.
  • Define surveillance plans and conduct internal audits.
  • Prepare and support customer, authority and third‑party audits.
  • Define and monitor Engineering Quality KPIs and manage risks.
  • Promote quality and safety culture across SONACA Engineering.

Your mission:

SONACA Engineering is looking for an Engineering Quality and Safety Engineer to support the deployment and continuous improvement of the Sonaca Group’s design assurance and engineering quality. The position is open to candidates with initial relevant experience as well as more experienced professionals willing to develop their expertise in this field.

Engineering Quality and Safety ensures that SONACA’s engineering activities meet airworthiness, safety, quality and design requirements. The department supports engineering teams by maintaining effective processes, ensuring compliance with Design Assurance and DOA requirements, and promoting quality improvement across the organization. It also helps manage risks, improve performance and enhance customer satisfaction.

Main Activities of Engineering Quality & Safety

Depending on the candidate’s experience, interests and development objectives, the position may cover several of the following responsibilities:

Governance, Compliance & Design Assurance
  • Contribute to maintaining and continuously improving the Engineering Quality and Design Assurance Management Systems.
  • Contribute to ensuring compliance with applicable customer, regulatory and certification requirements, including EN9100, EASA Part 21 Subpart J and customer-specific requirements.
  • Support the consistent application of airworthiness and safety requirements throughout engineering activities.
Quality Assurance & Audits
  • Act as the Engineering Quality focal point for customers and maintain related interface documentation.
  • Define surveillance plans and conduct internal audits.
  • Prepare and support customer, authority and third-party audits.
  • Assess and monitor the adequacy of quality systems implemented by subsidiaries, partners and subcontractors.
Project & Operational Quality
  • Ensure operational quality assurance for engineering projects, including coordination with subsidiaries and suppliers.
  • Participate in project reviews and engineering gates.
  • Support root cause analyses and the definition of corrective and preventive actions.
  • Ensure the quality governance of prototype and tooling activities.
  • Contribute to the creation, deployment and continuous improvement of engineering processes in coordination with process owners and relevant stakeholders.
  • Define and maintain engineering gate criteria, templates and methodologies.
  • Promote process excellence, lessons learned and best practices across the Group.
  • Support the process-centric engineering organization.
  • Support the management and continuous improvement of engineering signature delegation process.
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of training on airworthiness, safety, quality and Design Assurance requirements.
  • Communicate applicable regulations, standards and customer requirements.
  • Promote a strong Quality & Safety culture throughout SONACA Engineering.
Performance & Risk Management
  • Define, monitor and report Engineering Quality & Safety KPIs.
  • Consolidate technical, organizational and project risks, issues and opportunities.
  • Support management reviews and decision-making through performance and risk reporting.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives based on KPI’s, audit findings and lessons learned.
Your profile:
  • Master's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering or equivalent.
  • Minimum 3 years of professional experience in engineering, quality, certification, project management or a related technical field.
  • Experience in the aerospace industry, regulated environments or quality management systems is a plus, but not a mandatory requirement.
  • Strong interest in Quality, Safety, Airworthiness and Design Assurance activities.
  • Basic understanding of engineering development processes.
  • Knowledge of quality management principles and continuous improvement methods is an advantage.
  • Interest in aerospace regulations, certification and compliance requirements.
  • Ability to analyse data, identify risks and support problem-solving activities.
  • Strong analytical and structured mindset.
  • Curiosity and willingness to learn.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams, communicate clear quality expectations and challenge decisions constructively when compliance, safety or product integrity may be affected.
  • Proactive attitude and continuous improvement mindset.
  • High level of integrity.

This position offers the opportunity to develop broad expertise in Engineering Quality, Design Assurance, airworthiness and safety while working with multidisciplinary teams, customers, certification authorities and SONACA entities. The successful candidate will receive guidance and progressive exposure to the department’s activities according to experience and development objectives.

  • Auditor qualification or previous auditing experience is considered a strong asset.
  • Knowledge of aerospace regulations and standards (EASA Part 21, CS-25, EN9100, IAQG, customer requirements, etc.) is an asset.

Good level in English is mandatory (spoken & written)
