Quality Assistant – Westfalia Fruit (Wingene, Belgium)
Westfalia Fruit is a leading multinational supplier of fresh fruit and related value‑added products to global markets. We grow, source, ripen, pack, process, and market high‑quality avocadoes and fresh produce 365 days a year.
We are looking for a Quality Assistant to join our team in Wingene, Belgium. In this role you will support the Quality Lead and Quality Manager in maintaining food safety, quality and compliance standards across production.
Responsibilities
- Carry out CCP checks and monitor critical production and quality control processes.
- Verify production records, investigate deviations, and follow up on corrective actions.
- Conduct hygiene inspections, validations, calibrations, and support pest control monitoring.
- Manage reference samples, laboratory submissions, and maintain accurate quality records.
- Record, investigate, and track non-conformities through to resolution.
- Participate in HACCP and Food Fraud teams, supporting food safety and compliance initiatives.
- Deliver hygiene and quality awareness training to colleagues.
- Respond to customer quality enquiries, complaints, and prepare quality documentation, including questionnaires and corrective action reports.
- Maintain supplier information, complete supplier evaluations, and perform incoming inspections of raw materials and packaging.
- Collaborate with production teams to drive continuous improvement and ensure compliance with food safety, customer, and regulatory standards.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in food and laboratory technology, agro-food industry, chemistry or equivalent experience.
- Knowledge of quality systems and quality management in the food industry, food safety and HACCP.
- Fluent in Dutch and English, both written and spoken.
- Proactive, hands-on, and self-motivated, with the initiative to identify issues and take action.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organisational skills, with excellent attention to detail.
- Confident and assertive communicator, able to build relationships, influence others, and challenge non-compliance when required.
- Resilient, adaptable, and committed to continuous improvement and maintaining high standards of quality and food safety.
- Passionate about quality, with a consistent and reliable approach to driving a positive quality culture.
