About SOETAERT

We are looking for a QHSSE Advisor at SOETAERT. Soetaert carries out all possible foundation techniques, both for buildings and infrastructure works. At Soetaert, we focus on innovative foundation, shoring, and soil improvement techniques, which means that a tailor‑made solution for the project is considered for every location and every type of subsoil.

Your Role

Your day starts with a walkaround on site. You put on your personal protective equipment and have a quick chat with the site manager before heading out onto the site together: How is the project progressing? What’s planned for the coming weeks and months? Have there been any issues or challenges? Are there matters you need to be aware of or can help resolve?

During your round, you observe the ongoing work together with the site team and check if the safety procedures are being followed. You engage in conversation with the workers on site and show a genuine interest in what they do. If there is a safety issue, you address it diplomatically.

As a Prevention Advisor, you will:
  • Be responsible for quality, health, safety, security, and environmental (QHSSE) matters during the prequalification, tender, and start‑up phases.
  • Advise site managers, foremen, and workers on safety at their project and encourage them to uphold the highest safety standards.
  • Draft instructions for the safe and proper use of new equipment and machinery.
  • Help organize safety training in and around our project sites.
  • Serve as a partner to the site and project management, acting as the link between the construction site and Jan De Nul’s office departments. Your helicopter view and extensive (internal) network help ensure the work on site runs smoothly and safely.
A brief summary of your responsibilities
  • Monitor the safety and efficiency of operations on your assigned projects at various stages of execution.
  • Coordinate closely with site and project management, and engage with foremen, workers, and subcontractors.
  • Assess QHSSE risks and assist the project manager in achieving SMART objectives.
  • Prepare project‑specific documentation (QHSSE implementation plan, emergency plan, inspection and test plan), and support the project team during execution.
  • Identify and analyze safety issues on site and document them properly in our system. You also follow up on these incidents.
  • Investigate workplace accidents and monitor the implementation of preventive measures to avoid recurrence.
  • Facilitate and carry out QHSSE audits and inspections.
About Jan De Nul

Jan De Nul is a leading player in the construction industry, specializing in large‑scale projects — both on land and at sea. With a deep‑rooted passion for engineering, our family‑owned company continuously pursues innovation and sustainability in everything we do. The driving force behind our success? A strong team of talented and committed professionals.

What do you need?
  • A bachelor's or master’s degree in prevention, safety management, construction, mechanical engineering, or a related field. Experience as an environmental coordinator, safety coordinator, or prevention advisor is a plus.
  • At least 5 years of experience as a Prevention Advisor.
  • Strong communication and social skills — you’re able and confident to speak with anyone in a respectful and effective way. You know how to coach and support others.
  • A team player who can also work independently.
  • Able to set priorities and manage time effectively to meet deadlines.
  • Enjoys variety — no two days are the same for a QHSSE Advisor. Your schedule may change last minute, and you often won’t know how or where your day will begin or end.
  • Confident and assertive — if you spot an unsafe situation, you speak up, investigate thoroughly, and follow through even when faced with resistance.
  • Flexible and adaptable to changing conditions on site.
  • Willing to think and work alongside site management, while maintaining a practical and critical perspective.
  • Open to working on our construction sites throughout Flandres or Wallonie.
